everyone I know who has done something worthwhile has a period of wandering for 3-4 years in their 20s, just doing completely unrelated stuff
i've found almost no exceptions, seems like it's a rite of passage before doing something meaningful
during undergrad, I said to a prof that I probably won't do a phd because "I'm not good at math". He said something like "this thinking is bullshit, if you want to do it just do it". So that little remark put me where I am now (though I actually wanted to be a writer lol)
I suspect it gives them the excuse that no *hard work* is required. Because if it is, the implication is they're not good at maths because they didn't "work hard" enough.
Sure, sometimes there are rare geniuses. But there are millions more mathematicians who are regular ppl
I wanted to brush up some group theory and found this relatively less popular book and it’s been a treat.
It starts with rings and the transition to rings from integers is incredible. The book also covers modules which imo is rare and incredible.
Incredibly written book.
I am reading this one right now. Had to ask Chatgpt to create a deep research primer on group theory to be able to follow through.
Honestly dunno if this learning method would be beneficial- I plan on reading this in break-time to fill the gap between my “actual work targets”…
Here's a live demo of my Javascript notebook editor! I included a visualization of the quantum SHO to show how it can be used for interactive textbooks.

New post: a more in-depth look at SU(2) and geometry in a noncommutative, curved space. We develop tools like the exponential map, show why matrix commutators are like derivatives, and see how exp generates geodesics in SU(2).
L*nk below (ty @edsheeran for title inspiration)
How do you portray momentum in space accurately? Columnist Chanda Prescod-Weinstein takes a look at the origins of our understanding of motion, which runs from Isaac Newton back to the Zhou dynasty a millennia ago newscientist.com/article/252304…
Another reason to start learning cursive (math and physics utilise symbols that require decent penmanship to properly draw).
Then again I'm biased because I love pens and find any excuse to write

A friend of me who is studying math said: "It's like creating a magic system in a fantasy world. Only there is no story and no characters and no world, just the magic-system."
