This is just my observation, from what I've seen on X (this will be a very long breakdown). In the west, AI replaces the actual humans and art theft is at an all time high. Westerners do not credit the inspiration or origins, and instead only credit the companies or AI itself, as if they invented the works. In Asia, reputation is everything. Names that are already big are attached to AI works, which makes them appear reputable or like the works are still created by the original designers because the works are often trained on their own material. People want more of the stuff that already exists made by well-known artists there, whereas in the west it's all randomly generated with no base and no direction at all and no name to the style beyond being a Disney or Ghibli rip-off most of the time. In Asia there is also some integrity behind allowing an artist to remain at the head of an operation or have they're name attached to it and cannot be replaced, whereas in the west there are artists being replaced constantly all the time (the biggest example I could use is western comics vs. manga and how a mangaka gets to continue their work until it's over or cancelled, and western comics have many different artists and writers sometimes working on the same run of a story, so nobody really truly owns the things they produce). In the west AI is created by people who have no artistic background or don't work with artists at all, so it looks cheap and unappealing and is meant to cut costs. In Asia, it seems most of the AI that comes out has a design goal and is carefully trained in-house using their own material, and the thing they are cutting for is mostly time. They partner with the western companies that already exist and then make their own smaller LLMs. Sometimes the works produced by these LLMs are only for the design stage. Popular companies like HoYoVerse even began hiring people proficient in using AI for their new animal gacha game, supposedly to speed up the concept art/character design process, so that the works would then be given to their real artists to flesh out and create illustrations for. Then you have an example like the Coca-Cola company, which did not develop an LLM for their ads. They made their AI ad using the generic public AI in order to cut out hiring artists all together for the video, but ended up spending more money anyway hiring artists to correct the mistakes that the AI made in the final video, which was an even more difficult and time-consuming task in the end. The west is always using AI as a cheap way to make money, and in Asia it's used to flesh out ideas. I've even noticed most AI scammers are westerners, or people whose primary goal is to target westerners with no larger ambition in mind. Neither of these things are good, but I think because of the way it's used in Asia, the response to it is much more mild. However, this doesn't mean people are satisfied with it entirely. If you are in the communities online, you will see many consumers point out when something is AI slop, and that it's gotten so good that it's scary. To me, it feels like more of a conditioning, because many CEOs and companies in Asia keep trying to make it look good and make it sound "efficient" or "amazing" while showing people how good AI can make something look, or how useful it was in assisting. It's shown more like a tool. In the west, companies only care about how it makes the brand look because they want you to use the program so they get cash from people visiting the website or subscribing. In Asia they will generate something and go, "Look how incredible it came out, my vision became a reality, I can use this now." Whereas in the west, most of the time the response is "I made something look cool, now everyone will think I'm cool too, and maybe I can make money from this." In Asia the AI is used to advance the process, but in the west AI is used to dominate the entire work no matter how bad the outcome is with very little human interaction. (This is also where the difference between "soulless" and "too good" is.) You will notice even in Asian AIs, most of the works produced are based off an art style of a popular artist already, because people use it to generate what they want in a specific style. Western AI users really don't care at all, they just want what looks the same as everyone else or what comes out fastest, or whatever is trending. They rarely even credit the AI they're using and instead try to disguise the work as their own, whereas Asian users tend to have no shame in crediting the AI. (Excluding scammers who accept money for art, as they usually all try to hide the AI is used no matter what). This isn't to say also that Asian companies aren't sometimes using the AI because they think it looks cool. There are definitely some people using it after feeding the AI their own material and going, "Oh my god guys, look how awesome this is!" And there are extremely lazy people everywhere as well. Anyway, that's just what I've been taking note of. All this AI slop is getting out of hand, and I don't know if one side is truly more accepting than the other, but I do get the feeling sometimes it's not an equal divide. The culture around AI slop usage is just too different.

Genuinely curious if Asian market has accepted the AI slop with open arms? It seems like they don’t mind the AI generated content as much as we do in the west. Do they worry about their jobs being replaced or nah?

Is it like illegal for Hoyo to update the old models in Genshin Impact or something? Because if not, why haven't they yet? They waste so much time on new charas ppl don't even care about. Just update the old models and keep the OG models as free alternative skins or whatever.

Now that I've gotten to a comfortable place with my compositions and lining/sketching, I need to start working on my shading and rendering. 😤
