Though I see no reason why a mech shouldn't forgive themselves in the first place. Commit to who you are, even the worst aspects. Change them if you must, but do not pretend every accident does not have something hidden behind it. We behave how we do for a reason.

As for "forgiveness", perhaps work on being sure the damage you've done is finished and not to be repeated. If you cannot guarantee that, what point is forgiveness but to enable a recurring issue? It is only afterwards can you begin to tend to the wound you've created.
