@frollickingmole @Mon4Kooyong People do study not because that degree topic is their chosen field of life long work. Studying any degree does build research and reasoning skills which aid careers. No degree is easy and no degree is toilet paper. And no degree should cost $50,000.

@BamBam0667 @Mon4Kooyong Super is taxed at 15%. Find any other investment that regardless of growth is taxed at 15%. I’ll wait. There isn’t one. That’s why well managed super diligently and regularly invested in to growth funds from an early age will give you a sizeable retirement account.

@bowtiedstocks Doesn’t this depend on an investors risk appetite? An ultra long term investor can go all equities. A shorter term investor would be a fool putting 100% into equities. The stock market is at an all time high so a correction would not be unexpected.

@Reekyracer @Mon4Kooyong We are talking about several degree types where government has imposed higher costs on students. Hoping fewer students would study the courses. Instead of gouging students at these ridiculous fee levels for these 3 degrees why not simply cap enrolments. There. Fixed.

@frollickingmole @Mon4Kooyong Apprentices do make a real sacrifice through lower wages. But uni students in these penalised course also forgo earnings while studying —and then leave with $50k–$90k in debt. And many TAFE course today are free to encourage take up. I’d say both systems are unfair.

@MarkoMatvikov Yes the recent tax hike on super for funds above $3m which thankfully is indexed. I was against without indexation. But it’s a long bow to suggest labour could actively control people’s super for its own investment purposes. We control our super.

Borrowing from super to pay a debt simply means a diminished super balance and likelihood of needing a taxpayer funded pension. Tuition fees are extortionate. Lower them. That will solve the issue I’d suggest.

So your suggestion lacks rigour. And I’m far from an idiot sir as well as being ever polite. Unlike you.

@BamBam0667 @Mon4Kooyong If you had any understanding you’d know that students being younger have very little in super. And spending that money on HECS simply kicks the cost of living can down the road. Those funds are needed for retirement. How about making tuition fees cheaper? Why so expensive

@andymmcg @Mon4Kooyong All students loans are accrued debt. It doesn’t vanish. So people studying multiple degrees have massive loans to repay. The real issue is why do universities charge extortionate tuition fees? Courses are online and repeated. Courses should have capped fees.
