Alongside positive coverage of London Trans+ Pride - which left out the more unsavoury parts - both the Metro and Standard published an interview with Caroline Litman, whose child Alice died by suicide in 2022. Litman believes long waits for gender-related healthcare contributed to her child's death. The death of her child was a tragedy and her perspective absolutely deserves to be heard. But journalism also has a responsibility to distinguish between personal testimony and wider evidence. Both articles prominently report Litman's warning that "more children are going to die" unless the Prime Minister reverses what she calls Labour's "anti-trans policies". They also report claims that gender-affirming care is "life-saving care, especially in under-18s". But these are not settled claims. In fact, they sit at the heart of one of the most fiercely debated areas of medicine and public policy. Yet readers are given little indication of that. Where are the equivalent interviews with detransitioners who believe medical transition harmed them? Or with parents from groups such as Bayswater Support Group, who say they struggled to access exploratory care and felt affirmation was presented as the only acceptable path? The loss of a young person's life is heartbreaking. But journalists still have a responsibility to report the facts accurately, distinguish between evidence and opinion and provide appropriate balance. That doesn't mean giving equal weight to every viewpoint. It means acknowledging that there are other legitimate experiences and perspectives which are directly relevant to the story. Balance doesn't mean denying a grieving mother's voice. It means ensuring that other grieving families, detransitioners and parents with different experiences are heard too. Otherwise, journalism begins to look less like impartial reporting and more like advocacy.

This is govt policy in action. If you're not angry I question why not? There is no good reason to put solar factories on farmland. There are so many other suitable locations. The objective therefore is to remove the farmland from agricultural use. There is a historical context to this kind of plunder of independent farmers. It just seems that people have either never read it, or just forgotten it.
