I’m a gay man and a psychiatrist. I’ve watched the explosion of rapid-onset gender dysphoria cases, especially in teenage girls. I’ve seen the desistance data, the comorbidities, the regret, and the sterilizing effects of blockers + cross-sex hormones. And I have never supported medicalizing children. Not once. Never. Kids cannot consent to infertility, loss of sexual function, or permanent alteration of healthy bodies. “Affirmation” is not neutral care — it is an ideological intervention that locks many of them onto a medical pathway most would have grown out of. Being gay does not require me to pretend that sex is a spectrum or that a distressed 13-year-old girl is actually a boy. It requires the opposite: protecting same-sex attracted and gender-nonconforming kids from a medical fad that pathologizes them. I will not shut up.

I can remember the times trucking along late at night starting a conversation with a total stranger on the CB just to chat. Within a few hours you knew all about their families and things back home. Sometimes you’d stop for coffee many times you just parted ways, never meeting. Or walking into a crowed restaurant with no place to sit, here driver take a seat at my table. Or watching drivers in a crowed restaurant take up a collection for a stranded mom with 3 little kids and a broke down car. Who’s husband had just deployed. The drivers raised enough money that night to fix her car and get her and the kids a room that night. That’s the trucking I really miss.

We’re a tiny,rural, ancient village. A small post office/shop providing the basics, serving our mostly elderly neighbours. A one-room library. A chemist. In the small hours, some little fuckers tried to ram raid the post office/shop, couldn’t, because of the sturdy, very old wooden door, so decided to set fire to the car & entire building. Now there are 10 states, plus DC, that allow abortion until birth. Alaska Colorado Maryland Massachusetts Michigan Minnesota New Jersey New Mexico Oregon Vermont Washington, D.C. Yelp, Dick's Sporting Good, and Starbucks will reimburse employees out of state travel fees for abortions. Apple, Amazon, Microsoft, and Meta offer health plan coverage and travel reimbursement for out of state abortions. This is so disheartening.

Earlier this year, a policeman thought his girlfriend was cheating on him with her ex. So he decided to run her license plate through the city’s Flock Safety program. He ran her plate through 124 times, and ran her ex’s 55 times. More than 7000 organizations, mostly law enforcement, have Flock contracts, with over 120,000 Flock cameras set up all over the country. Those 120,000 cameras scan 20 billion plates a month. A MONTH. The cop who suspected his gf was cheating got caught because the ex boyfriend checked a website to see if his plate was being tracked. He filed a complaint against the cop and that officer ended up getting suspended. I hope he gets fired. This is not an isolated incident. Last weekend, 6 former Savannah PD employees are came under investigation after being fired for misusing Flock cameras. And last week, a NC police officer was arrested for using the Flock system to track her boyfriend’s ex wife. These cameras need TO GO. If they are used to scan license plates, why are they being set up at parks, bike paths, nature preserves, golf courses, community pools, gyms, gun ranges, schools, clinics, preschools, etc..? They aren’t tracking plates. They’re tracking us.

I just don’t feel like listening to everyone say “they’re making it so you can’t get vaccines now” all week. They didn’t get rid of any vaccines. They didn’t make it harder to get any vaccines. They just changed the guidelines doctors use to recommend vaccines, and which ones, at which times. That’s literally it. Your doctor might not even follow the new guidelines. If you’re upset enough about this that you’re worried, your doctor specifically almost definitely won’t. Even if your doctor does, YOU don’t have to. This is about giving parents a CHOICE. It’s about informed consent and an American’s right to CHOOSE what’s right for their bodies, and the bodies of their children. So when friggen Abby Philips gets on CNN and asks her cherry picked guests “why do you think it’s okay that Trump is getting rid of vaccines?” this week, just remember that we’re all dumber and less informed for it.
