@ScotRail @wrmkay Didn’t the RDG retail standards guide used to say as part of their impartiality regulation that split fares shouldn’t be offered where a through fare is available (unless the customer asks for it of course in which case it becomes acceptable) ? Does that regulation still exist?

But in the real world, if they simply don’t bother and leave you stranded over night what are you going to do about it? There’s no regulatory body with a spine so they do as they please and get away with it.

I’m not suggesting you’re passing the blame onto regulation here but you could forgive me for questioning this. I suspect deep down you agree it’s ridiculous on a sleeper train late at night.

@swtrains_watch @SW_Help @Heidi_Labour It’s a shame but this is essentially what the railway has become, a hostile environment. I won’t comment on the specific case but it is very much an easy picking situation with revenue teams. Pick on great aunt Doris as she won’t smack you in the teeth and probably has savings.

@swtrains_watch @SW_Help You can strip the money it ends up costing by doing it this way. Only a third of people will claim delay repay in the first place. They’ll (wrongly) reject a good chunk of them and most won’t appeal. As for taxis, they’ll fob everyone off after the fact. All operators do this.

@TPEassist Ok. It’s the ticket that changes at Preston but the passenger carries on through to Manchester Oxford Road so that sounds like a good plan for them to upgrade on the day. Thanks for your help.

@TPEassist Hi folks, is your £25 weekend fist still a thing and if there was a pair of split tickets (Edinburgh to Preston and Preston to Sheffield via Manchester for example) do both need to be upgraded using a Edinburgh to Manchester train or just the 1 upgrade fee?

@RoseHappy4Ever @EastMidRailway Yes, initially. Ultimately Network Rail (known as the tax payer) will fund any costs incurred by this incident. That includes taxis and hotels and the compensation to the operators for the delay, a tiny percentage of which will be paid out to passengers in delay repay.

@JoCollina @LNER @genesongs Given that the seats are full and there are often 150 people standing on the train where do you suggest those standees go? Many of them have paid more for their ticket than those with seats. Do we just say “sorry try tomorrow”?

@swtrains_watch @JohnTillUK My local station to York (3 trains) used to be 1hr 48m total (of which only 50m of that was on train, the rest being connection time), it’s now over 3 hours due to changing times around. For reference It’s 1hr25 to 1hr35 by car.

@swtrains_watch @JohnTillUK Whenever things get retimed nowadays (particularly on local services or connections to and from) they always seem to get much longer wait times meaning connections are less likely to be missed but the overall journey time increases massively to the point it’s less viable.

@JohnTillUK There’s often multiple connections that would be missed by people in these circumstances, if the operator just held them all by default this could have a knock on effect for most of the day. Unfortunately in many cases even when they say they’ll hold a connection it’s a lie.
