One of my favorite recent traditions: On my student teacher’s last day, my students write notes for a “bad day” jar. When she is having a “bad day” in her 1st year teaching - she gets to go into the jar and get some love. ❤️

@kelseybogan @FollettLearning Yes, please please please make this a feature that can be turned off. It's upsetting on a number of levels. It adds time. It feels like it adds unnecessary political layering. It doesn't even include all of the reasons I might remove a book.

@kellyyanghk @goodreads I thought it was odd Goodreads took MG away from their awards. Mg books are crucial in order to keep kids reading. @goodreads needs to reconsider.

My daughter wanted to read Frankenstein in 6th grade because I am always saying how much I love it. She has always loved reading and challenging herself, but she was getting lost in the beginning of the story. She was ready to give up. I gave her a copy of the graphic novel, with ORIGINAL text, and she is now reading them side by side. Her confidence is regained. Why wouldn’t we have graphic adaptations in our classrooms? Why would we put up insurmountable barriers and cheat students of an amazing story? We are now discussing how our mental images differ from those in the comic - and that’s the beauty of paired texts.
