We're in the same position as 18th century physicists with electricity. They could generate sparks, store charge in Leyden jars, and even shock people, but had no idea what electricity was until they discovered electrons. Right now, we're generating sparks and calling it intelligence. We'll figure out what it actually is only after we understand the underlying mechanism, which we don't yet, for either brains or transformers.

I understand that there's probably a process that this guy circumvented for releasing this CLI and that's why he got let go, but tbh, still feels like something to reprimand for and not fire. Google moves slower than other companies, that's not an industry secret. If they want to change their culture, they should use moments like this to figure out, "How can we ship faster?" Could've been a good learning moment for both parties, but alas, dude is gone now and somewhere that values autonomy and shipping will pick him up.

@vincent_presh @bolaabanjo You mean the new chips or NVIDIA's? If it's NVIDIA, the main reason companies go for NVIDIA chips is for training chips more than inference. It's why Google and Amazon can be their model providers.
