DHS's racist posts targeting the Sikh community are a disgrace.
Sikh Americans are a treasured part of our nation. They have been targets of ignorant hate in this country since 9/11, and it is unacceptable for them to be mocked by their own government.
*"AMERICA FOR AMERICANS...SELF-DEPORT MR SINGH"*
USA Homeland Security, the department of American government in charge of domestic security, released a poster today depicting a brown bearded man with a headcovering, along with text saying "you don't know how to drive Mr Singh".
This anti-Sikh rhetoric is bigoted, un-American, and has no place in our country.
New Jersey is proud to be home to one of the largest Sikh American communities in the nation. Our Sikh neighbors make our state stronger – and we will always stand with them against hate.

This is blatant racism. Sikh Americans have faced unfair targeting since 9/11, while anti-Sikh hate crimes and harassment continue to threaten their safety.
They are our friends, coworkers, neighbors, and business owners—people who strengthen our communities every day. They are not, and never will be, an enemy of this country.
I condemn DHS’s words and imagery in the strongest possible terms.

The administration and DHS make no effort to hide their obvious bigotry, casting suspicion on millions of Americans based on their background and appearance, in this case, the Sikh community.
DHS’s grotesque advertising campaign is hateful, disgraceful, and un-American.
Sikh Americans have served, built, led, and strengthened communities across the United States for generations. This administration is posting racist propaganda that has no place in our country.
