Je to desivé, ale prakticky všetky firmy, ktoré ma posledné týždne kontaktovali, boli firmy, ktoré nám ponúkali byť "compliant" s nejakou novou EÚ/štátnou reguláciou: 1. Kontaktovala ma firma, či posielame tovar v rámci EÚ, a nepotrebujeme pomôcť s novou "obalovou" reguláciou PPWR. 2. Kontaktovala ma ďalšia firma, či už máme dodávateľa e-Faktury a keď nie, môžeme to robiť cez nich. 3. Dlhodobo ma kontaktujú firmy, ktoré nám ponúkajú compliance s GDPR. 4. Sem-tam mi zavolajú firmy, či robíme "dohľad nad zdravím našich zamestnancov" (PZS). 5. Aj napriek tomu, že sme IT security firma, tak ma kvôli NIS2 kontaktujú firmy, či nechceme externého bezpečnostného manažéra. 6. Už mi volali konzultanti, či nepotrebujeme ESG / CSRD reporting (vykazovanie udržateľnosti). 7. Minulý týždeň sa nám ozvala ďalšia firma, či nepotrebujeme aktualizovať našu "transfer pricing" dokumentáciu, že boli nejaké zmeny v zákone. Čo majú všetky tieto firmy a ich služby spoločné? Ich biznis je postavený na nejakej štátnej regulácii, mimo Slovenska/EÚ by si ich služby nikto dobrovoľne neobjednal. Na Slovensku/EÚ musia, lebo to vyžaduje zákon. Toto sa v ekonomickej teórii nazýva rent-seeking, kompletne nové biznis odvetvia bez vytvárania reálnej hodnoty, teda jediná reálna hodnota je byť v súlade s nejakou štátnou reguláciou. Hovorí sa, že na Slovensku je celkové daňové zaťaženie 64%. Dovolím si tvrdiť, že je ešte podstatne vyššie. Slovenské/EÚ firmy musia platiť za niečo, čo mimo EÚ nedáva žiadny zmysel a bez tlaku regulátora by si to tam nikto neobjednal. Podľa mňa polovica nákladov, čo majú európske firmy, je náklad na compliance s nejakou európskou/štátnou reguláciou. A potom sa čudujeme, prečo nie sme konkurencieschopní so zvyškom sveta. I left the Netherlands because of this. I was exempted from the tax for the first 10 years I was there because I had special status as a "kenniswerker". After that, like every other Dutch citizen, I was taxed on the value of my savings account. The amount they automatically sucked out of my account every year was about equal to half of my pre-tax income, making it financially infeasible to stay. I could have spent the money on things, but if I did, I wouldn't have any savings. At the time, I was told the tax was designed to encourage spending.

Claude je v súlade s AI reguláciou a užívateľovi stačí nainštalovať tento skill, aby vyhodil vytváranie watermarkov a celé to obišiel. Ursula, like other European politicians, is completely hallucinating about things that are utterly detached from reality. For example, that the over-regulated, ultra-taxed EU will be the first AI continent. Why the EU won't be an "AI continent": 1. They postponed their own law before it even took effect. The Digital Omnibus pushed the AI Act's high-risk rules back 16 months to December 2027 – the "AI continent" couldn't even get its own bureaucracy ready for its own regulation. 2. Regulation came before the product. The EU wrote a comprehensive AI law before building a single frontier model. The US is building, China is building, Brussels is writing annexes. 3. Mistral is a generation behind OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, and DeepSeek. Not a single European model is in the top tier of any benchmark. Aleph Alpha gave up back in 2024. 4. Chinese open-source models ignore the AI Act – with impunity. Enforceability against China is zero. Compliance costs fall only on European companies. Self-harm by law. 5. The capital is orders of magnitude elsewhere. €200B "mobilized" (of which the EU contributes only 50, the rest being non-binding pledges) vs. Stargate at ~$500B. Meta or Microsoft alone spend more per year than the entire European plan. 6. Electricity is 2–3× more expensive than in the US, and Germany shut down its nuclear plants. You won't win the AI race on subsidized wind turbines. 7. Zero homegrown hardware. The EU doesn't make GPUs. ASML makes lithography machines; the chips are baked elsewhere. 8. Talent is draining away. The best Europeans work at DeepMind and OpenAI – even Mistral's founders were trained there. 9. GDPR is already turning the EU into a periphery. Meta, OpenAI, and Google launch features in the EU late or not at all. A European = a second-class AI citizen. 10. The cherry on top: the European Parliament's AI chatbot blocked a question about how to get rid of von der Leyen – citing "security guidelines." The only thing European AI does reliably: protect politicians from criticism.

Today von der Leyen said: "This is not about whether children can access social media, it is about whether social media can access our children". 💡The first part is true. This isn't about children. It's about surveillance and combating political dissent. A state that can't control its own citizens is more dangerous than a state rife with criminals. The second part is a PR soundbite that politicians are using like a campaign slogan straight out of 1984. 🇪🇺"The question is no longer if children face risks online, but what can we do to give children a safer start online". 💡No. You can't give children a "safer start" online any more than you can offline. In the offline world, the government doesn't enforce curfews or ban children from entering liquor stores, bars or restaurants. That's a parent's responsibility. The digital world should be no different. 🇪🇺"The age verification app is one of the tools to get it done". 💡This is a contradiction because she also said "It won't be foolproof". 🇪🇺"It's easy to use, it is privacy preserving and it is open source". 💡The app was compromised as soon as it was released. "Privacy-preserving" age verification is an oxymoron. You can't verify a person's age without verifying their identity. Where or how that age is shared afterwards is irrelevant. 🇪🇺"This is basically about putting back the power into the hands of parents". 💡More from 1984. The EU is doing the opposite. Parents are having their authority stripped by politicians who think they know better. Many parents are capable and unaffected by peer pressure, and they know how to use parental controls to block any app classified as 13+. Some teens are safe, their parents trust them, and the state has no business overruling that trust. 🇪🇺"We don't give our children keys to the car before they have their licence" 💡Comparing an app to a car is a false equivalence used to justify mass surveillance. Governments don't decide when a young person is ready for car keys, guardians do. 💡Forcing every adult and child into a biometric checkpoint just to use an app or website is not licensing drivers. It's the state seizing everyone's keys, locking the garage, and forcing every driver to ask a private company for permission to take a drive. 💡 This is a gross, unethical overreach that strips authority from parents while imposing state sanctioned identity verification on every adult who doesn't even have a child. 💡Additionally, people who pass a test, obtain a licence and drive a car aren't forced to use an app to constantly authenticate their suitability to drive. 🇪🇺"We do not let them buy alcohol until they are legally allowed" 💡False equivalence. We don't force every person to show ID at a shopping mall entrance just because a few people might buy alcohol with a meal at a restaurant. Some parents are okay with their 12 year-old going to the mall with friends while others aren't. Either way, it's their choice. Whatever irresponsible decisions some parents might make, every adult in the country shouldn't be forced to pay the price. 🇪🇺"It won't be foolproof" 💡This is all the proof we need to show that the EU and every government know that banning social media for teens won't protect them. When pressed by journalists about VPNs being used to circumvent a ban, politicians always state the ban isn't a silver bullet and will take time. The Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan went as far as to say "we know it's not the solution". 💡Either age verification works, or it doesn't. As a technical expert in this space, I can tell you there are no additional steps to take and no progress to be made. Either the approach does what it is supposed to do, or it's not fit for purpose. If they claim a bulletproof solution is coming, it can only mean one thing. They intend to ban or restrict VPNs to people who verify their identity. 🇪🇺"It will take time to invite the cultural change that is already taking shape in our society, just as it took time to outlaw drink driving, just as it took time to use seatbelts in the cars. Great change never happens overnight, but when it comes to our safety it is always worth it". 💡Comparing a social media ban and age verification to seatbelts is a completely broken analogy. Seatbelts are a safety feature that protects children while allowing them to travel in a car. A ban doesn't give kids a seatbelt. It kicks them out of the car entirely. 💡Instead of supporting parents who want to guide their own children through the digital world, this heavy-handed law strips away parental authority by banning the apps and websites that many parents are perfectly fine with and actively monitor. 💡Furthermore, enforcing these bans requires biometric age verification, which means forcing millions of adult citizens to scan their IDs, faces or credit cards just to browse the internet. That isn't a common-sense traffic law. 💡It's a digital checkpoint on every street. True safety means teaching kids how to navigate the digital world safely with real guardrails and parental guidance, not burning down digital spaces for everyone under the guise of protection. 🇪🇺☠️ The EU wants to ban teens from social media so every person is forced to verify their identity before they can read, share or post anything online. @econoirsk Viralny pribeh je rychlo zabuduty. Pravdeponejsie sa mi zda zhorsenie situacie v SR/EU. Vacsina volicov su zamestnanci/dochodcovia. Neplatia ziadne dane a odvody a danovej byrokracie sa nedotknu. Len sa vezu. Zmena k lepsiemu je nepravdepodobna.

@eevblog @grok But other browsers download files transparently without asking user for every single file (e.g. updates, page files), and create GBs of cache. Is this about wasting space? I could understand if some sensitive data is sent out. But don't get why this is so shocking.

@burkov I would not notice this that easily just by checking if it's "working".

@burkov For example, in my audio processing app I needed to ensure that only lock-free sync mechanisms are used in audio processing thread. But even after specifying this, the ai still used a mutex in one part of the code.

@burkov You could ask ai to generate automated test, but how can you trust these tests without either looking at the code, or testing everything manually again.

@burkov Other issue I had is that it e.g. made my node.js fragile - it crashed after after dropped tcp connection. And I don't want to test these kind of things manually because the list of what to test becomes too large...

@ybouane @levelsio Maybe a bit exaggerated to say that nobody could get in. But I also don't understand his counterarg. You still need to install additional privileged tailscale daemon to your VPS that also can have 0-day. And SSH 0-day hacks seem to be rare (don't what he means with many examples)

@incpo_ @levelsio I don't understand the 0-day argument. You need to install privileged tailscale daemon to your server. Which looks like additional attack surface and also can have 0-day exploit. If hacks allows to control privileged daemon, why it would need to go through ssh additionally?
