"Anything government does costs at least twice as much as if it were being done by private enterprise" - Milton Friedman The lack of comprehension of US founding documents & principles has led us down a path of continued erosion of what works best for long term growth and prosperity Milton Friedman understood this better than most and worked tirelessly thru his life to bring that knowledge to as many as would listen. The points he raises in the attached video are on the nose. The role(s) of government as Friedman spells it out - 4 essential functions (1- defense, 2- protect individuals from others internally, 3- define the rules of life, 4 - provide a judicial system) He opposed President Nixon's price and wage controls as well as Nixon's departure from the gold standard Those changes set the stage for many of the problems we have faced in the last 50 years A return to the limited government spelled out by our Constitution would go a long way towards overcoming many of the economic challenges our nation faces There was always give and take in our government, but beginning in the late 1800's it stated to grow uncontrollably, slowly at first, but like a snowball it gained size as the welfare state rolled down hill Many of our current Senators have stated that they want a Federal government small enough to fit into the Constitution - I agree with that sentiment 100%
