I've been nil by mouth for 10 months now, and I can't say it gets any easier. In fact, I find it much much harder as time goes on. There is, however, one cruel advantage - my permanently broken jaw exposed inside my mouth is less vulnerable. Before I became nil by mouth, food and drink would find their way into the exposed bone, and it would become infected every few weeks. Since I've stopped eating and drinking, those infections have dramatically reduced. That's the strange mathematics of my life now. I lose the ability to eat and drink, but in return I gain some protection from infection. One loss protects me from another. It's a brutal trade-off and there is nothing fair about it and nothing I would ever have chosen. But sometimes living with cancer means accepting bargains you never agreed to make.

This guy is lucky to still be alive. In this crazy video from Mexico, a mountaineer records buzzing from a corona discharge (a form of St. Elmo’s Fire), and it means a lightning strike is imminent. Extreme voltage builds up between cumulonimbus clouds and the peak. The buzzing is the sound of electricity actively leaking into the atmosphere (often accompanied by tingling skin or hair standing on end), and is the final warning sign that lightning is about to strike that exact spot. One possible explanation as to why the left has no theory of mind of the right comes from Jonathan Haidt’s “The Righteous Mind” (2012). He shows that moral judgments come from instinct and are then rationalized. The six moral foundations are care, fairness, loyalty, authority, sanctity, and liberty. Leftists build their moral world on care and fairness, whereas the right draws on all 6 almost equally. This implies that the right’s moral range generally allows them to understand the left, whereas the left tend to be unable to comprehend moral worldviews based on loyalty, authority, sanctity, and liberty. The left is constantly arguing with only a third of the moral vocabulary the right is actually using.
