@zempheth @WayneHines24470 Could be. I see no reason for Zimbabwe to cave in on the issue and go back to quotas, it will only delay the time it will take to build in country. A regional converter could be built to process all of the smaller players product.

@WayneHines24470 @zempheth The elephant in the room that no one is talking about is the Zimbabwe ban. That will reverse all of the CATL production and then some. We are 5 months away from the ban.

Lithium spot prices jumped yesterday, so is Jianxiawo's restart being 'faked'? A recent securities report in China cast doubt over the legitimacy of the restart at CATL's 150,000 tpa LCE capacity Jianxiawo lepidolite mine, citing low activity around the site and the continued absence of an Environmental Impact Assessment. Remember, a lapsed licence amid waste management concerns and low market prices closed the mine in August 2025. Our take: while it is a concern that we haven’t seen an EIA, it's not enough to call the whole restart into question. Here's why... An EIA is a precondition for getting a safety production license (granted on 29 June), but they managed to obtain this without one. That doesn't mean the restart isn't genuine, rather CATL is not following standard procedure here. @benchmarkmin has seen a traceable increase in activity at the three refining partners: Lopal; Wanzai; and Fengxin. Lopal should be first to receive restart material, given that it's the only one of the three that didn’t fully shut down - though it's worth noting this could involve stockpiled material for now. One of Lopal's two lines is operating; the other is not, and will need to undergo a full restart process. Wanzai and Fengxin remain suspended, with only slow ramp-up activity so far. In summary, the truth lies between the two narratives: Jianxiawo's restart has been neither instant nor fake, it's just gradual, like every brownfield mining restart - China speed or otherwise. So why have #lithium prices fallen over the previous 10 days? The mid-term demand outlook for #EV cells weakened following poor profitability figures from several Chinese EV makers. The figures stoked cost control and sales growth concerns as domestic retail EV sales continue to underwhelm - the OEMs blame increasing silicon chip and lithium prices. Despite the negative news flow, Benchmark's real-time consumption indicators remain strong (cell + cathode + vehicle production are delivering strong demand pull through). This comes against a backdrop of still-depleted Li chemical inventories, just at the point in the year when they would normally be at their peak.

China plans to install more battery storage than it has built in its entire history 144 GW. That's China's cumulative energy storage at the end of 2025. The 15th Five-Year Plan for Carbon Peaking now puts the 2030 target at 300 GW. That's more than double than what they have now. 156 GW of anticipated installation capacity, with a goal to achieve in half a decade. The plan specifies "new energy storage types" which include electrochemical, compressed air, flywheel. Electrochemical will be doing the heavy lifting here, and electrochemical means lithium. LOTS OF LITHIUM. Vanadium redox flow batteries are also in the running, which drags vanadium onto a demand trajectory never seen in history. We've already seen previous example of Shenzhen. It was supposed to electrify its public bus fleet by 2020. It was done by 2018. Two years early. China's Five-Year Plan don't sit on a shelf collecting dust. They hit early, they hit hard, and the supply chain will need to keep up its pace. If 300 GW by 2030 follows the Shenzhen example, lithium and vanadium markets are in for the biggest bull ride of its life.

@CAGWfool @EVCurveFuturist Battery technology has improved to the point that EV's can compete on price and on range, the missing link is charging speed, which is coming in the form of solid state batteries. Don't forget as well that US policy can change every 4 years.

The continued obsessive focus by people that should know better on a high cost, low quality mine in中国🇨🇳demonstrates how effective CATL, SMM & others have been in controlling the #lithium narrative. Look at the big picture from a distance.

@KylePotatoBake @WayneHines24470 @jczuleta BMI was taken over since their last predictions, just because the company name stayed the same does not mean the same level of accuracy remains. I had a lot of respect for BMI, but recently not so much. Do your own research.

Hyped announcements with little critical scrutiny are what make many supply forecasts unrealistically bullish. This is another example of announcements clashing with reality — whether from naivety, inexperience, or deliberate misdirection. Forecasting supply requires more than believing announcements at face value.
