I once generated 108 million Twitter impressions a year. Then I stopped paying attention to Twitter. The system that had rewarded me changed. Links stopped travelling as far. My 560,000 followers no longer guaranteed distribution. And the global conversation I had joined in 2008 increasingly felt like an ocean of outrage. So I stepped away. Now I’m returning—but I’m not trying to rebuild the old machine. I’m trying to understand the new one. Over the next few months, I’m going to relearn X in public. I’ll investigate questions such as: Do large, respected accounts help the algorithm discover you? Are followers still an asset—or mainly a historical number? Do links reduce reach? Do personal stories outperform research? Can X Articles become a genuine long-form publishing platform? Can a dormant account be reawakened? I’ll share the experiments, analytics, failures, surprises and changing conclusions. No secret algorithm hacks. No pretending one viral post proves anything. I mastered the old Twitter. Now I’m learning the new X. Welcome to The X Reinvigoration Experiment.
