The 213 Era is over. Unfortunately it will be remembered as a failure. However, excitement and anticipation in 2019 will live on forever. I cherish that time dearly. It was the first time I ever felt like the Clippers could be NBA champions. The Clippers got 2 top ten players in the NBA, both in their primes and a great supporting cast around them. I didn’t care about anything else. I would do that trade over 10/10x Was the 213 era as fun as lob city? Maybe not, but we they had some pretty damn good team and talented rosters. I would put the 20’, 21’ 24’ and 25’ teams up against any lob city team and 213 would wash them comfortably. They may not have achieved their goals but I seriously believed in them, specifically in 20’ and 21’. Both of those teams should have been NBA Champions. I feel like coming up short in both of those seasons mentally broke them. I don’t blame the players though. I don’t blame Kawhi. I don’t blame PG. For the most part they did what they were asked. Of course I wish it was more. We didn’t get the PG that was advertised, Kawhi suffered 2 career threatening injuries. It felt like every bad thing that could happen to them happened. And it’s no excuse, they both could have been better. Especially PG…. but at the end of the day they took this team to a places they have never been before. It’s unfortunate but I can’t be bitter about it forever. To me the front office failed this era more than the players. Can’t fault them too much bc they really tried their best. And when you have a win now team you can’t worry about the future. But it got to the point where the future was approaching faster and faster and they failed to recognize what was happening right in front of their face. They badly mismanaged assets, fumbled draft picks, made trades and signing based off of name and not fit. They got very careless and began to allow the players to dictate their decisions. At some point they stopped trying and started to become desperate. The 23’ season was by far the lowest point of the 213 era. Horrible team on both ends of the court, locker room turmoil and injuries at the worst times. It was obvious that that should have been the end. Instead the franchise let their loyalty to Kawhi and PG ruin the franchise. Of course they didn’t have their picks, but they still had plenty of assets to begin the process of turning this franchise around. They turned Zu into a top 5 pick. I will never believe that their only option was to run it back every year. But alas, they waited and waited….. gave up everything for Kawhi Leonard and Paul George…. and all they got back for those two was Brandon Ingram, Gradey Dick and 2 picks. Sad end to this era. On to the next.
