@arthur_spirling And if I consider them on a merit basis, absent strong prestige signals/in-group invites, these exclusive conferences are genuinely more useful than APSA open sessions.

I've spoken to a few junior folks who say they get ~nothing from APSA, except the chance to attend the pre-conferences (which are mostly nothing to do with APSA per se, and don't get any APSA revenue). Don't think that sort of eqm can last tbh.

The meteoric rise in "pre" conferences (e.g. pre APSA) is interesting. Seems to help an under-served constituency, esp juniors, who aren't getting what they need from the big general conf itself. Worth thinking abt why that is, and implications for big confs, what we charge etc

Every tax “season” is a policy failure: deduct at source, no one pays a third party to do a return, and there’s no surprise over or under payment. Just be a normal country.
