@james_e_b_ @RevivalCare @sfmcguire79 Do we know this though? It seems like it has been challenging to replicate the results of the 2014 Mueller and Oppenheimer study.

@SeanTrende This conversation shows we are more comfortable with the firm conviction side than with the mortal humility side of the scale when considering the omnipotence and incomprehensibility of God. Isaiah 55:8-9, Romans 11:33-36, and 1 Timothy 2:3-4 reveal scripture’s complexity here.

@rctopcop @johnkonrad I don’t think we disagree much on this. It would be great if we can hit the pace of two Virginia’s and one Columbia annually. 19fortyfive.com/2026/08/the-us…

@rctopcop @johnkonrad In contrast we have no frigates. We have ~74 Burke’s, about 1/3 of which are 30+ years old. We have ~70 nuclear submarines, a majority are 30+ years old….all the Los Angeles and Ohio class vessels. Canada has some serious naval problems, but unfortunately they’re not alone.

@rctopcop @johnkonrad Where do I suggest that the Canadian navy is capable? They are not, even in the Arctic. My point is when we consider the problem of aging ships, we face this challenge too. And while this problem is widely acknowledged, we haven’t hit our stride to close our gaps yet.

@rctopcop @johnkonrad No, they aren’t. But the scope of our navy’s mission requirements are far greater. We need more hulls in the water. I suppose the LCS have some advantages for littoral work over the Oliver Hazard Perry class, but which would you prefer for capability and survivability?

@BullandBaird Four seasons does not equal horrendous weather. AAU members with the highest snowfall: Rochester, SUNY-Buffalo, Colorado, McGill. Shortest days: Washington, McGill, Minnesota, Oregon. Coldest January: McGill, Minnesota, Dartmouth, Wisconsin.

@SantiagoAuFund Concerned to see areas with very different status conflated into one group. Inhabitants of some of these are US citizens, but not all. Micronesia, Marshall Islands and (missing from the list) Palau are independent, associated nations. Samoa is unique. DC is a federal district.

@conorsen There are different types of data centers for role and function. Where latency isn’t a consideration your question makes a good deal of sense. Where low latency is desired, edge data centers distributed close to users support high performance.

@thomasbsauer @johnkonrad A carrier is a 50 year investment and must support expected future platforms including UAV’s. Is this a tech issue or a procurement and delivery issue? Steam catapults are a known quantity. But if the Chinese master EMALS on the Fuijian class, then we are ceding an advantage.

@johnkonrad Joseph Reeves is surely spinning in his grave listening to the debate. If the Navy’s continued procurement problems are blocking a system that improves sortie rates and better supports oncoming UAV’s, the answer should be to fix procurement.

@Festivus96 @ComputerSageJAB @HMBohemond Doesn’t the Lincoln have steam catapults? It is one of the older carriers in service.

@Rtang24079780 @SoothingDave Where I live in Wisconsin, sunrise would be 8:15 am or later (10 days at 8:29 am) from December 7 to January 30. Maybe the times are different for your locale.
