🧠 ⚡ This event reflects the growing work of the Brain-CE Collaborative at the intersection of climate change, brain health, and equity, and the importance of bringing these conversations into the broader climate and health dialogue.
🔥 “Climate exposures don’t just affect children in the moment — they shape the brain across the lifespan.”
This powerful insight from Dr. Kristen Sjonnesen captured the urgency of our “Brains on Fire: Climate Change, Neurological Health, and Equity” panel hosted by the BrainCE.
Today, we recognize that women’s leadership, lived experience, and health must be central to climate solutions. 🌍👩⚕️
Climate change is shaping brain health through heat, air pollution, and disaster-related stress and these impacts intersect with existing gender inequities. 🌡️🧠
🤲 The communities affected by environmental inequities are vocal about their experiences and concerns, and this collection of books supports the growing discourse. Together, these works offer diverse perspectives and show how climate, equity, and brain health are connected.
🌎 Brain-CE is honoring Black History Month by sharing books from researchers who explore the complex intersections of environment, race, and brain health.

👉 Let’s make the invisible impacts of climate change impossible to ignore
Because protecting the brain means rethinking how we talk about climate, health, and risk — together.
🔥 Wildfire smoke isn’t just a lung issue. It’s a brain issue.
🌎 When we talk about air quality and wildfires, the conversation almost always stops at asthma, coughs, and hospital admissions. But that’s only part of the story.
🧠 This post kicks off our new “Brain” Teasers series — short, engaging facts that spotlight the often-overlooked connections between climate change and brain health.
📢 At Brain CE, we’re working to refocus the narrative. We’re building a community committed to increasing awareness of how wildfires, air pollution, and other climate-related exposures impact brain health — and why this matters for equity, prevention, and policy.
🔎 Emerging evidence shows that tiny particles in wildfire smoke don’t just stay in the lungs — they travel further, triggering brain inflammation, affecting cognition, and increasing the risk of stroke and dementia.
🧠 🌎 2025 Milestone for Brain-CE
📢 We’re proud to share that Brain-CE is now a member of the Planetary Health Alliance (PHA) — a global network advancing solutions at the intersection of human and planetary health.
