Presiden kok makin alergi dengan kenyataan? Yang keliru bukan foto itu, atau media yg menampilkan foto itu. Yang jelas keliru adalah jika negara lebih marah kepada cermin daripada kepada wajah yang dipantulkannya. Foto anak-anak menikmati MBG di depan sekolah yang rusak bukanlah penghinaan terhadap negara. Justru itulah esensi jurnalisme, utk menghadirkan kenyataan yang penuh kontradiksi agar publik melihat persoalan secara utuh. Pers seharusnya bukan humas pemerintah. Tugasnya bukan memoles citra kekuasaan, melainkan mengawasi penggunaan kekuasaan. Dalam tradisi demokrasi, media menjalankan fungsi watchdog, termasuk membuka keburukan yg ingin disembunyikan dr publik. Ironi dalam foto itu bukan hasil rekayasa wartawan. Yang menciptakan ironi adalah kenyataannya. Anak-anak menerima makanan bergizi di depan ruang kelas yang reyot. Jika ada yang terasa memalukan, sumber rasa malu ya kondisi yang direkam kamera. Dan itu sumbernya kebijakan negara yg memang keliru. Mengecam media karena menampilkan ironi seperti itu semakin menunnjukkan wajah junta otoriter. Seolah pers hanya boleh menampilkan keberhasilan pemerintah, sementara kegagalan harus disembunyikan. Padahal demokrasi justru membutuhkan kritik agar kebijakan terus diperbaiki. Selama sekolah rusak masih berdiri, guru-guru sengsara, sementara MBG beracun dan jadi makanan bebek, publik terus memiliki alasan untuk mengabadikan paradoks pembangunan.
