What a remarkable and inspiring weekend we had at the Seminar for New Mission Leaders. We were blessed to hear from President Dallin H. Oaks, who shared that The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints will soon have more missionaries serving than ever before. Missionary service is especially dear to me. From my own mission as a young man, to serving with Melanie as mission leaders of the New York New York North Mission, to my current service on the Church’s Missionary Executive Council, I have witnessed the miracles of this work. I love missionaries and I love this calling. I hope that you will see and feel the majesty of this moment that is happening right before our very eyes. To the 87,000 missionaries currently serving and those preparing to serve: you are serving in one of the most remarkable times in the history of God’s work. You have the privilege of representing the Lord Jesus Christ during a season of growth that fills us with wonder and awe. Count yourself blessed—called for such a time as this. I feel that we are only scratching the surface of what the Lord has in store for us as He prepares the world for His second coming. As we go forth from to proclaim the gospel of Jesus Christ to all the world, I firmly believe that the best is yet to come.

We look on life differently; we see way beyond this mortal life. Our trust is in our Heavenly Father and in His Son. Our challenge is to believe in Him and trust in Him, and to know that our choices in this life will follow us beyond the veil. I shared this message while in New Zealand on a recent assignment. What Jesus said to His disciples anciently still applies to us today: “If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me” (Matthew 16:24).

The Savior has commanded each of us to love God and to love our neighbor. We are grateful for the faithful efforts of members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints who strive to fulfill this divine commandment. Their service is a witness of discipleship.    My counselors in the First Presidency and I recently visited the Church’s new humanitarian center in Salt Lake City. This facility will serve an important role in preparing and distributing emergency supplies to meet global needs.    I express appreciation for members of the Church and for all who minister in quiet and consistent ways. I testify of Jesus Christ, whose light and Spirit guide the children of God in caring for the poor and the distressed throughout the world.     May we each accept and act upon this sacred responsibility to bless the lives of all of our Father’s children.

I know beyond any certainty in my life that this is The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, restored with the fullness of the gospel that God has chosen to reveal in this dispensation of the fullness of time and led by prophets to the present day.  I respond with humility to the responsibility that God has placed upon me and commit my whole heart and soul to the service to which I’ve been called.

People often inquire about the exact time of the Second Coming. While we cannot know that (see Matthew 24:36), what if the day of His coming were tomorrow? If you knew that you would meet the Lord tomorrow—through premature death or through His unexpected coming—what would you do today? As Jesus taught in His prophecy of the Second Coming, blessed is the “faithful and wise servant” who is attending to his duty when the Lord comes (see Matthew 24:45–46). “Wherefore,” the Savior tells us, “be faithful, praying always, having your lamps trimmed and burning, and oil with you, that you may be ready at the coming of the Bridegroom—For behold, verily, verily, I say unto you, that I come quickly” (Doctrine and Covenants 33:17–18). Jesus Christ lives. I testify that He shall come, as He has promised.

What your children really want for dinner is you! In an age of constant online connection, we may need to disconnect from technologies and other distractions to truly reconnect with our families. Families grow stronger when they set aside these distractions and spend meaningful time together—learning eternal values like the importance of marriage and children, the purpose of life, and the true source of joy. Parents also have a duty to teach their children practical knowledge apart from gospel principles. Families unite when they do meaningful things together. Happy family experiences strengthen family ties. Camping, sports activities, and other recreation are especially valuable for bonding families. Some may say, “But we have no time for any of that.” To find time to do what is truly worthwhile, many parents will find that they can turn their families on if they all turn their technologies off. What those we love need most is simply time with us. Our Savior, Jesus Christ, is our ultimate role model. He will help us as we strive to build these family bonds.

I come here after a short break and of course people are finding something else to get upset about. This change was made with revelation. And frankly the criticisms make me think of this set of verses from Ether 12: “25 Thou hast also made our words powerful and great, even that we cannot write them; wherefore, when we write we behold our weakness, and stumble because of the placing of our words; and I fear lest the Gentiles shall mock at our words. 26 And when I had said this, the Lord spake unto me, saying: Fools mock, but they shall mourn; and my grace is sufficient for the meek, that they shall take no advantage of your weakness; 27 And if men come unto me I will show unto them their weakness. I give unto men weakness that they may be humble; and my grace is sufficient for all men that humble themselves before me; for if they humble themselves before me, and have faith in me, then will I make weak things become strong unto them.” Can we truly find adequate words to describe our wonderful young women? No. But these group names were received by revelation and seem like a wonderful way of showing how these young women can live on the covenant path. Criticize them if you want. But the Spirit tells me they are inspired and powerful.

Truly, Jesus Christ is the way to peace in this world, and eternal life in the world to come. He knows and loves each of us perfectly, and invites us to walk with Him, abide in Him, and follow His example of ministering to others one by one in charity and love. We have been reminded of the central role of marriage and families in our Heavenly Father’s plan for the eternal destiny of His children. Enduring to the end is not merely a relentless determination to grit our teeth, hold on to the limits of our physical strength and mental capacity, and push through the challenges and adversities of mortal life; it is so much more than that. Enduring to the end is linked inextricably to the spiritual gift of charity, or the pure love of Christ. As we are blessed to receive this supernal gift, a transformation occurs in our spiritual nature and character. Charity encompasses both what we do and what we can become as this spiritual gift ultimately possesses us. As we follow, love, and serve the Savior, we gradually focus less on our own desires and interests, and more on understanding and addressing the needs of others. We do not merely perform benevolent deeds; rather, our state of being is changed and becomes increasingly Christlike. Charity, then, ultimately possesses us. The scriptural phrase “endure to the end” is a repeated reminder of the mighty spiritual change in our hearts that should be ongoing throughout our lives; it also is His promise of what we may become if we truly are possessed of the pure love of Christ. #GeneralConference

@realKellyKnight I agree with you. I always have envisioned what their voices would be like... So I believe I have heard them as I studied the scriptures and other holy writ. That way the scriptures become alive to us.
