Footage posted on social media shows a man confronting the tourist, who is wearing a Star of David necklace, saying: “Do you support your genocide? What’s wrong? “Youse are gronks, that’s what youse are, youse are genocide . . . the children killer.” The woman, visiting Perth from New York, says she was “attacked” by the man, who was wearing traditional Muslim dress, and his companion, a woman in a niqab. “These people just attacked me in Perth because they saw my Magen David (Star of David necklace),” the woman said. The video footage, posted by the Australian Jewish Association to X on Thursday, shows the woman chanting a Jewish solidarity anthem after the incident. The alleged abuser was then seen heckling another man who attempted to defend the woman. When she shouted “get away from him”, he told her to “shut up”. A female bystander could be heard attempting to diffuse the situation, shouting: “There are families around who don’t need to hear this.” The alleged abuser and the woman wearing the niqab, who filmed the incident on Thursday, are believed to be tourists from Sydney. The Jewish woman later took to social media to slam Prime Minister Anthony Albanese for his government’s failure to stop the rising tide of anti-Semitism in Australia. It has triggered increasing anxiety in Perth’s Jewish community, following an arson attack on a Melbourne synagogue and an incident in Sydney where cars and fences were graffitied with anti-Israel slogans. The female victim identified herself as an “Australian tourist from New York” who was “attacked because I was visibly Jewish”.
