It's pretty clear from this post by @strombo that he doesn't really understand the problems with the "Nakba" exhibit at @CMHR_News. So, let us help @strombo understand what is really going on ⬇️ When a federally funded museum's exhibit presents the story of the "Nakba" in a one-sided, anti-Israel narrative that distorts the actual historical record by disregarding key context and evidence, that's a problem. When a federally funded museum's exhibit fails to identify Hamas as a listed terrorist organization, or to explain that Hamas’s objective on October 7, 2023, was the mass murder of Jews, that's a problem. When a Liberal-appointed Jewish member of the board for the Canadian Museum for Human Rights steps down because he believes that the Museum's mandate has been compromised by the decision to sacrifice truth at the altar of politics, that's a problem. When the advisory council overseeing the "Nakba" exhibit includes individuals who have publicly proclaimed that “Zionism is a disease that must be destroyed”, that's a problem. Many Canadians are raising legitimate concerns about these issues. The argument isn't that the story of the "Nakba" needs to be silenced, but whether it is being told fairly, grounded in historical context, informed by multiple perspectives, and free from ideological advocacy.

This year's KW Palestine Festival will be held on municipal property at Kitchener City Hall. Advertisements for the Festival indicate that the event will include an exhibit walkthrough that will contain antisemitic content, including an installation described by the organizers as “a symbol of the eventual destruction of Zionism.” The materials present Israel not as a state whose actions may be debated, challenged, or condemned, but as an illegitimate expression of the Jewish system of beliefs. The destruction of Zionism means the destruction of the Jewish people’s right to self-determination in their ancestral homeland. The Jewish people have the right to live freely and securely in the land to which they are historically, religiously, and culturally connected. Antisemitism disguised as anti-Zionism is not new. It is one of the ways anti-Jewish hate is being surreptitiously injected into public life. It may masquerade as education, culture, resistance, or human rights advocacy, but its targets remain the same: Jewish life, Jewish history, and the Jewish people’s right to live in their ancestral homeland. Jews are denied their faith, identity, and ancestry. Municipal officials should not be fooled by this rebranding. B’nai Brith Canada is calling on the City of Kitchener to urgently review this event and whether the advertised materials are in violation of the City’s own policies. The municipality has a responsibility to maintain safe, inclusive, and hate-free civic spaces. Our leaders must enforce a zero-tolerance policy for hate. If they fail to do so, B'nai Brith Canada will hold them accountable.
