The difference between a benefit and state pension is state pension is contributed to via national insurance. It’s a contribution towards old age. Many other benefit recipients have not paid into the system. State pension should not be called a benefit.

@RobertJenrick There are loads of us that don't qualify for pension credit and Universal Credit with the thresh holds to high and yet the government can hand out all these freebies to any one that come in , not fair when you have paid into the system all your life

We worked damn hard back in the 80s to buy our own home, brought up our lovely children, life was tough. We worked all our lives trying to make a better life for ourselves & we did ok. Fast forward to 2026 & it just feels that everything you have worked hard for is slowly being taken away from you. Life should get easier as time goes by but what have our children got to look forward to when you teach them to work hard & you will reap the benefits when that’s not the case anymore. It feels now that the harder you work the poorer you get. How’s that right. It’s not right & it’s not normal.

Who else is fed up with people carping on about pensioners owning all the houses and sitting on large savings? Pensioners have paid a mortgage for 35 years so yes,they own their houses. They have to live on their savings for the rest of their lives. It's not rocket science.

For all those people out there that begrudge pensioners receiving a measly pension, they still pay Council Tax, pay for food, heating & other bills. Illegal migrants pay for nothing. Why don’t you begrudge this? Why do you begrudge elderly people when they’ve paid taxes all their lives but don’t begrudge unknown people who’ve paid nothing. Why?
