Robert Maxwell controlled Pergamon Press while it published influential works on Hitler, Nazism, Auschwitz and the Holocaust. He later acquired Macmillan Inc., entered a 50-50 school publishing and testing partnership with McGraw-Hill, and controlled the Daily Mirror. That gave one deeply compromised man extraordinary reach across academic research, newspapers, university material, school textbooks and the systems used to test what children had learned. Maxwell was also accused by Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Seymour Hersh of working with Mossad, had documented relationships across British and Soviet political circles, and was later exposed for stealing hundreds of millions of pounds from employee pension funds. He denied the intelligence allegations, and no court conclusively established that he was a triple agent. The conflict-of-interest question remains enormous. Publishers decide which books are commissioned, funded, translated, promoted, distributed and kept in print. Maxwell did not need to write every page to influence which historical works reached universities, libraries and classrooms. His name and that of his wife also appeared on the editorial advisory board of Remembering for the Future, a major Holocaust research project published by Pergamon. That places him closer to the intellectual machinery than the convenient excuse that he merely owned the company. There is no evidence that Maxwell fabricated the Holocaust or rewrote the Second World War. Nazi crimes are independently documented through German records, camp files, transport lists, photographs, physical sites, trials and testimony from victims, witnesses and perpetrators. The scandal is the concentration of power. A politically connected media proprietor facing serious intelligence allegations controlled major channels through which history was published, taught and assessed, while students were rarely told who stood behind those institutions. Maxwell-era publishing records, editorial correspondence, funding, source selection and educational distribution should be open to independent scrutiny. History should rest on primary evidence and competing scholarship, never blind trust in a fraudster who held enormous influence over what generations were permitted to read and learn. Anthony Albanese has dismissed Pauline Hanson’s call for one Australian culture as “nonsense,” then went further and claimed that Australian culture was “never there.” That is an extraordinary thing for the Prime Minister of Australia to say. The argument was not that migrants should erase their heritage, forget their family history or pretend their background does not exist. The argument was that everyone who comes here should buy into Australia first: our laws, our language, our values, our national interest, our social contract and the basic expectation that this country is more than just an economic zone with a flag attached. Albanese rejected that. His answer was that people can be proud of their ethnicity and “be who they are” without accepting the need for a shared Australian culture. That is not leadership. That is the Prime Minister telling Australians the country he leads has no serious cultural foundation worth defending. Australia is not held together by permanent fragmentation. It is held together by common loyalty, common standards and a shared national identity strong enough to absorb difference without being replaced by it. Migrants from every background have helped build this country, but the condition was always simple: you can bring your heritage, but you also join Australia. You do not just live here. You become part of here. Albanese does not speak like a man defending a nation. He speaks like a manager of competing identity groups, terrified of saying that Australia has its own culture and every right to expect loyalty to it. The immigration debate is not just about how many people enter Australia. It is about who Australia becomes when low birth rates and high migration run together for decades. Australia’s fertility rate is 1.481 children per woman. Replacement is about 2.1. In 2024, Australia recorded 292,318 births and 187,268 deaths. Births still exceed deaths, but fertility is far below replacement. The country is not naturally renewing itself. In the year to December 2025, Australia grew by 412,500 people. Only 111,500 came from natural increase. Net overseas migration added 301,000. Nearly three quarters of annual population growth came from migration, not births. That is the mechanism. Low fertility weakens the existing population base. High migration fills the gap. Repeat that every year and the demographic composition changes without one national vote. The shift is already advanced. In 2025, 32 per cent of Australia’s population was born overseas. In 2021, 51.5 per cent of Australians were either born overseas or had at least one parent born overseas. That was before the post-COVID migration surge. India has now overtaken England as Australia’s largest overseas birthplace. In 2025, there were about 971,020 India-born residents and 970,950 England-born residents. Between 2015 and 2025, the India-born population rose by 522,000. China rose by 223,000. The Philippines rose by 171,000. Nepal rose by 163,000. Over the same decade, England fell by 36,000, Italy by 46,000, Greece by 29,000 and Germany by 18,000. That is the direction of the country. The old British and European migration base is shrinking or ageing out while the fastest growth comes from India, China, Nepal, the Philippines and other non-European sources. Religion shows the same shift. In 2021, Islam had grown to about 813,400 people and Hinduism to about 684,000. Hinduism grew by 55.3 per cent between 2016 and 2021 alone. Those are pre-surge Census figures. The birth-rate comparison makes the replacement pressure obvious. Australia sits at 1.481. The EU sits around 1.34. Germany is around 1.35. France is around 1.56. Sweden is around 1.43. Western nations are sitting below replacement. Sub-Saharan Africa is around 4.3 children per woman. Nigeria is around 4.5. Niger is around 6.1. Uganda is around 4.3. Mozambique is around 4.8. Afghanistan is around 4.8. Pakistan is around 3.5. These are population-producing regions compared against Western nations sitting around 1.3 to 1.5. India is different because its fertility has fallen to around 1.9, but that does not make the Australian shift harmless. India is the world’s largest country by population. Australia does not need India to have African-level fertility to transform the demographic balance here. It only needs large annual intake from India into a country whose own historic population is below replacement. That is already happening. This is how demographic replacement works. It does not require one group to become 50 per cent overnight. Anglo-Celtic Australia is reduced through the combined growth of multiple migrant blocs while its own birth rate remains too low to hold share. The same model is running across the West. In the EU, deaths have outnumbered births every year since 2012, yet the population still grows because migration offsets natural decline. In England and Wales, White British fell from 87.5 per cent in 2001 to 74.4 per cent in 2021. In Canada, the national statistics agency projects immigrants and their Canadian-born children will make up 52.4 per cent of the population by 2041. That is the point. Low native fertility, high migration, second-generation growth and ageing European-origin populations produce the same result: the historic national population becomes a smaller share in its own country. Karl Stefanovic has spoken publicly after being shown the door by Channel 9 following the Tommy Robinson interview, and the message was clear: he is free now. After 21 years on free-to-air television, Nine did not even give him the chance to properly thank the audience that rode with him through the highs, the lows and everything in between. So he did it himself. He thanked the viewers, thanked his colleagues, thanked the people who stood by him and made it clear that the last few days had not been easy, but he is not done. The most important part of his message was not the farewell. It was the principle behind it. Karl said the public deserves to hear different perspectives. Sometimes he agrees with a guest, sometimes he does not, but the audience has the right to listen, judge, reject, accept and make up its own mind. That is what free speech means. Conveniently, parts of the mainstream media clipped around that message. The section about freedom of speech, different voices and the public being smart enough to decide for themselves was exactly the part they did not want amplified. That tells you everything. Channel 9 treated an independent podcast like a corporate offence because Karl allowed the wrong person to speak without the approved media filter wrapped around him first. That is not journalism. That is a newsroom culture terrified of open conversation. Karl should see this for what it is: a blessing in disguise. He no longer has to sit inside a network that punishes its own talent for stepping outside the script. He can build his own platform, speak to whoever he wants, ask the questions the public actually wants answered and let Australians decide for themselves. Channel 9 may think it solved a problem. Daniel Andrews has crawled back into public view after months out of sight, and Victorians are once again being asked to treat him like a statesman instead of the premier who tore this state apart. This is the man who ruled Victoria through fear, curfews, police overreach, business closures, border rules, playground bans, family separations and vaccine mandates that forced healthy people to choose between their conscience and their income. He broke businesses, crushed families, divided neighbours, locked people in their homes, lectured the public like children, then walked away while Victoria was left with the debt, the damage and the memories. His health is his business. His record is Victoria’s business. A medical scare does not erase what happened under his government. Elderly Victorians died alone. Families were blocked from hospital beds, aged care rooms and final goodbyes. People missed funerals, children were kept out of classrooms, workers were stood down, businesses were destroyed and ordinary Victorians were treated like criminals for questioning rules that the political class expected everyone else to obey. The political class can clap for him if it wants. The media can polish the comeback story if it wants. Plenty of Victorians will remember him for exactly what he was: the most divisive premier this state has ever had, a man who used emergency power like a weapon and left ordinary people to pay the price long after he was gone. If Elon Musk becomes the world’s first trillionaire, the numbers stop sounding like wealth and start sounding like sovereign power. At $1 trillion, just 0.1 per cent of his net worth would equal $1 billion, one per cent would equal $10 billion, and splitting the entire trillion across every human on Earth would still only hand each person about $120. A trillion-dollar personal fortune would be larger than the annual GDP of Taiwan, Ireland, Belgium, Sweden, Israel, Argentina, Singapore, Austria, the United Arab Emirates, Norway, Thailand, Vietnam, Malaysia, the Philippines, Bangladesh and Denmark, while sitting at nearly half the size of Australia’s entire annual economic output. GDP is not the same as national wealth, but as a scale comparison it shows how absurd the number has become: one man’s balance sheet would be bigger than the yearly production of entire developed nations. Tesla shareholders have already approved a pay plan that could hand Musk up to $1 trillion in stock if the company hits extreme valuation and operational targets, including robotaxis, humanoid robots and a market value climbing toward $8.5 trillion. Supporters see it as a reward-for-results structure tied to one of the most ambitious corporate growth bets in history, while critics see the largest executive pay package ever created and a level of individual economic power that no civilisation has really had to process before. Whether people love Musk or hate him, the scale is undeniable. A billion dollars is already more money than most people can meaningfully understand, but at trillionaire level a billion becomes a rounding error, a tenth of one per cent, a tiny slice of a fortune larger than the economies of nations that sit at the table of world affairs. JUST IN: Victorian Parliament sat through the night and finished around 5:30am after Labor pushed through the Electoral Further Amendment Bill 2026, a major rewrite of political donation laws months before the state election. The bill introduces a $7,500 donation cap, a $15,000 cap for eligible new entrants, bans foreign donations, requires real-time disclosure above $1,250, and restores public election funding for political parties and candidates. Labor says it is fixing the system after the High Court struck down Victoria’s previous donation laws. The Opposition says Labor has used the crisis to build a new advantage for itself, restricting donations for political rivals while keeping a powerful financial pipeline through union affiliation money and expanded taxpayer funding. Nicole Werner MP said MPs sat through the night because Labor had done a deal with the crossbench to ram the laws through. Anthony Albanese has claimed Australia is drawn together with India through “culture, education and of course, the international language of cricket,” while urging Australians to understand India by getting on a bus or train there. What culture exactly? Australia and India can have trade. Australia and India can have diplomatic relations. Australia and India can have cricket ties. None of that means the two countries share the same culture, national character, civic inheritance, living standards, public order or social foundations. This is the problem with Albanese’s worldview. Every foreign relationship becomes a lecture about how Australia must see itself as less distinct, less inherited, less Western, less culturally specific, and more like some borderless regional marketplace where trade deals and migration flows are treated as identity. Australians have seen enough of India online to know many are not rushing to take Albanese’s romantic bus-and-train tour. Streets clogged with rubbish. Rivers filled with pollution. Public sanitation failures. Overcrowded transport. Human waste in places no developed country would tolerate. That is not an insult. That is the reality people can see with their own eyes. India may become a major economy. It may be strategically important. It may be worth trading with where it benefits Australia. That does not mean Canberra gets to pretend Australia and India are culturally interchangeable because Albanese wants another diplomatic applause line. Australia is not India. India is not Australia.
