🚨 Two women have been arrested for protesting against Israel’s ongoing atrocities in #Gaza, marking the first time in the #Maldives that arrests have been made for such demonstrations. The women, Aishath Shadhiya, the wife of prominent scholar Dr Mohamed Iyaz, and Dr Shazra Ibrahim, were protesting daily near the British Embassy, the German Embassy, the UN Offices, and the residences of the British and Saudi ambassadors. Aishath Shadhiya and Dr. Shazra Ibrahim were arrested from Male on August 28. They were remanded in custody of the police for three days. They were presented before the Criminal Court for an extension to their remand on Sunday, in a closed hearing. The court ordered for them to be remanded in custody of the police for another five days.
