The real point isn’t “ICP is the best at everything,” but where it still has a concrete edge. ICP is one of the very few stacks where you can actually run backend, storage, and HTTP serving inside a single canister and deliver directly without stitching multiple layers together. With most alternatives, you’re coordinating separate pieces, which works, but adds complexity. Another practical difference is UX. On ICP you can build apps where end users don’t pay gas at all, so the experience feels much closer to web2. That’s not a small detail, it has a big impact on adoption. And then threshold signatures (ECDSA/Schnorr) inside Chain Fusion allows canisters to interact with other chains without bridges, which is still a pretty hard thing to replicate securely. Where ICP is no longer unique is pretty clear too. For pure storage, static hosting, or more traditional backend setups, AO, Filecoin, or Walrus can do the job just as well, often cheaper and sometimes with more flexibility. So yeah, it’s not the only option and not always the best one. But if you’re building a full app with a smooth user experience and don’t want to glue together 3–4 different protocols, ICP still has a pretty clear edge.
