I did my Master’s thesis on how to optimize mechanical stress to enhance bone recovery. I applied my knowledge to running & it’s worked really well 😄🧠! I’ve never done back-to-back long runs. Only do 18-22 mi 1-2 times a month. Cumulative volume gives 💪🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️🏃‍♀️.

I’m also strongly against the“death before DNF” attitude/motto some people have created in marathons and ultra marathon culture. I’ve DNFed (did not finish) in track 10kms, road marathons (including Boston) and several ultras. I run for health reasons…its ok to quit sometimes!

@MountainRoche agree, but at 41 balance 3 variables: muscle/tendon strength, aerobic, and endurance. The aerobics are off the charts, endurance builds steadily, but sprint work leads to injury. So I do the faster running at tempo speed and it works. trailrunnermag.com/training/trail…

@runcandice I love that we coach young runners to run/walk, in the middle tell them only running only is good, and then for ultras revert to run/walking as the solution. Glad I was able to run-walk myself to a 21 hour Brazos 100 last week ;)
