@ok_lyndsey @Vintage_Toaster I followed up Mapbox fella's lead and it stacks up fairly well. This clause is the same language OpenAI and Anthropic used to discourage the use of their platforms initially during last year's US election. As he hints, probably less salient to Mapbox products.

Do you truly see a generalisable rationale for such "politics clauses" based on appeals to vendor virtue? There are many cases where tech vendors that once claimed progressive values turn coat.

Is it "open source advocacy" to bat for your SaaS vendor mates by implying an open source user questioning a murky licence clause is adjacent to social fascism, and patronising the hell out of them while failing to answer?

@ok_lyndsey @stevage1 @Mapbox Further, as you may know Mapbox has a complex record on open source: for instance a couple of great FOSS4G projects are forks of prominent (and historically excellent) Mapbox codebases that the vendor restricted its licences on.

@ok_lyndsey @stevage1 @Mapbox Look, if you're sincere about community advocacy why don't you just explain why not, instead of stonewalling? I use open source GIS technologies to build things for institutional clients so the detail and risks of technology licences matter to me.
