If you've been interested in getting into Evola but felt that some of his books were too dense or complicated, "The Mystery of the Grail" might be the entry point you need. It does not fully explain his metaphysics, but it does provide a specifically Western doorway into Traditionalism, with reference points that are culturally familiar like the Arthurian legends, the Templars, Dante, etc. What I love about this book is that it shows Evola at his most mythically alive. He's working with symbolic material that showcases his strengths as a metaphysician. This is his wheelhouse. He shines much brighter in this capacity than he does as, say, a political analyst. It's also just a less alienating book than some of his political writings, which tend to be fairly harsh and severe. I think it's better to meet Evola in a way that introduces him through the spiritual imagination, and this book does a great job of that. "The Mystery of the Grail" is also an excellent book for making the concept of initiation more concrete. In other works, I think it can sometimes come across to readers new to the concept as being kind of grandiose and abstract, and the Grail material makes initiation much more narratively visible: the knight must be tested, purified, awakened, and brought into relation with a hidden centre. You can see how he is working with the chivalric image and separating out what is the higher, heroic, regal, initiatic current from what is devotional, sentimental, and moralistic. It's a nice book for getting a handle of Evola's symbolic key without first forcing you through the entire metaphysical system. You then have something of a reference point for diving into "Revolt Against the Modern World" or many of his other books. So check it out! It's a quick listen as an audiobook, only about 7 hours.

First of all, I’m making the statement so I get to use my chosen definitions of “communism” and “socialism”. Communism failed for a similar reason that capitalism is failing — both systems concentrate wealth in the hands of the few, who in turn rule over the many. Socialism is the hybrid of communism and capitalism. It provides robust social programs, healthcare, massive infrastructure investment, and nationalizes resources that belong to the people. It also allows free market economics up until a certain point. Monopolies are prevented, and vital industries are nationalized. Your assertion that nationalization leads to shortages is blatantly wrong. Nationalizing resources was the de facto norm in democratic “capitalist” countries for over a hundred years, and ended when the parasitic “elite” needed new wealth to plunder. From 1890–1990, many Western nations extensively nationalized industries and natural resources. Britain, France, Norway, Canada, Austria, Italy, and others all expanded state ownership at various times. The idea that public ownership was uniquely “communist” - or uniquely Eastern - is simply not supported by history. Socialism is the wealthy parent that helps the kids through college, or helps them to buy their first home, and shows them the path to self reliance. Capitalism in the parent that kicks you to the curb when you’re 18, and tells you to take a student loan to afford college, and to rent for 15 years before being able to afford to own a home. Communism is the parent that forces you to become a welder when you wanted to become a teacher.
