My walk from Jantar Mantar was about to turn into another procession so we grabbed the first available means of transport 🛺.
Here is a 90 year old man leading from the front for J&K’s rights & dignity while some others sit at home posting tweets.

After careful deliberation PDP has decided to join the Jantar Mantar protest only if the restoration of Article 370 & release of political prisoners are at the heart of the agenda. Participating in a protest that is confined solely to statehood would amount to putting the last nail in the coffin of our larger constitutional struggle for Article 370 thus legitimising BJP’s illegal August 5, 2019 actions. Our fight is for constitutional rights not one time symbolic gestures.
PDP President @MehboobaMufti visited the ancestral residence of Chief Minister @OmarAbdullah to offer her condolences to him and the bereaved family on the passing of Dr. Mustafa Kamal.
Chief Minister @OmarAbdullah has said that J&K parties with representation in the Assembly, either in the past or at present, will be invited to participate in the proposed Jantar Mantar protest programme. 1. Parties likely to be invited based on this criterion: Regional parties: (a). @jkpdp – has had representation in all Assemblies since 2002 (b). @JKPCOfficial – 1983, 2014, 2024 (c). @JKPDFKHANSAHIB -2008, 2014. (d). Panthers Party 2. INDIA bloc allies with Assembly representation: 1. INC – has had representation in almost all Assemblies since 1967 2. CPI(M) – has had representation in all Assemblies since 1996 3. AAP- has representation in current Assembly. @ @JK_AIP question It will be interesting to watch whether @JK_AIP will be invited as a party. MP Er. Rashid and MLA Sheikh Khursheed won as independents and are recognized as independents by both the Lok Sabha and the J&K Assembly. Parties that don’t meet the criteria: Apni Party, DPAP, JDF, and Awami National Conference. Note: Awami National Conference was in power between 1984-1986, but all those MLAs were elected on @JKNC tickets. Defunct or banned regional or national parties with past Assembly representation: 1. Jamaat-e-Islami 2. Bharatiya Jana Sangh 3. Janata Party 4. Awami League 5. Democratic Party (Nationalist) 6. Jammu Praja Parishad 7. Harijan Mandal National parties with past representation, now dormant or split: 1. Janata Dal – (5 MLAs in 1996 ) 2. Bahujan Samaj Party –( 4 MLAs in 1996, 1 MLA in 2002) 3. All India Indira Congress (Tiwari) – (1 MLA in 1996)

Blessings and patronage matters for Kashmiri leaders. He recommended and facilitated another leader’s visit. He himself now claims that he was not allowed to visit.
PDP leaders and supporters are busy sharing every video praising the young boy’s remarks. Fair enough. But I have one question. Would they have defended him with the same enthusiasm had he criticised the PDP government in 2016? When schools remained shut for months after the Burhan Wani unrest, then Education Minister Naeem Akhtar still conducted board exams in November despite widespread opposition. Dissent was hardly welcomed and newspapers critical of the government also faced action. Would this boy have been celebrated then or silenced? Defending free speech is easy from the opposition. The real test is whether you uphold it when you’re in power.
