Ottawa’s investment in @TeckResources Trail Operations will boost #germanium & #antimony output, while adding #gallium to the mix. It's a big deal, strengthening Canada's ability to process and supply these vital materials, and advance our economic and national security objectives. Why is this important? These aren’t just commodities, they’re strategic assets in high demand. Classified as "defence-critical" by our NATO allies, they’re indispensable to new technology and defence applications. They’re also susceptible to market manipulation by foreign powers, who have restricted their export for leverage from time to time. The up to $400 million investment by the Canada Growth Fund will be matched by Teck for a total investment of up to $850 million in Trail Operations, and will build on the company’s existing infrastructure, expertise and experience in producing strategic metals for the past 130 years. Importantly, this strategic investment includes an offtake agreement that will see the Government of Canada receive a portion of the germanium, antimony and gallium produced. This will build our domestic stockpile and ensure secure supply for Canadian and allied tech and defence industries. The strategic partnership between Teck and Canada will create new jobs and economic opportunities in Trail and the West Kootenays.
