I landed back in Mumbai from a European vacation last month. I was not carrying back any new electronics or items that have duties on them. In Mumbai, everyone must put their hand luggage through a scanner while exiting the airport. There are these guys (not customs officers but helpers who move bags on to the scanner) who whispered in my ear in Marathi 'give some gift (money) to the guy ahead, he'll be very happy'. I totally ignored what he said, took my bags after scanning and walked away. Imagine the corruption that runs through these customs channels at the airport. Absolutely disgusting.
