It's risky prediction against the grain, but I want to make it: we will not see the "disposable, ultraconfigurable, generative UIs". We will see many attempts, we will try to deslopify it, but eventually the best UI would be the one, that's done with a lot and a lot of care, not just the one that's delivers code faster. I have at least 5 major problems with generative UIs (I'll share later), but instead I will share just one fear: I don't want to stuck in the norms of modern state of UI. I don't think it's the best one. I think we have so much to offer. I think current UI is at 20% of it's full potential, even if you sprinkle your "Impeccable" "Linear-like" "good-design" skills onto it. It's half-way good UI and even if you double the amount of skills, it will not reach the missing parts of intent. And if we're going to stop right now and just keep reusing current UI, we will stuck in the "current ways", which I don't find radically better, than Terminal UI, which I also find quite depressing.

2010s Yanko Design was one of the strongest sources of inspiration for me. A lot of ideas that looked promising, even though they were "unreal". There's something, that's missing from current "design inspiration" sources. It was truly "optimistic", but not in the current sense of "optimism", where people want to raise money FOR EVERY IDEA and put AI in it, but because it was focusing on "form" more, than "function" and it somehow inspired good function too. The effort in each concept was 10x higher, than in majority of well-funded startups. It's hard to fake, even though we have WAY better tools now.

There's a joke in graphic design circle, that every logo is either an ass or a dick (with a bit of imagination). You can look at erected leaf of Apple, the end of Obsidian's stone, or famous AI-holes. It's the kiki and buba of logo design, because it spans through cultures. Logo of New Twitter is both (very on-brand).

Context enriches the design, and when you hear the justification, it can make the design better. Just by hearing the words. You can judge this design all you want, but people in Reels really connected with it AFTER hearing the references, that were used. And I find this more beautiful, than many other logo-typeface slop, that acts like "timeless" and will be outlived by GameSwap somewhere.

Industry truly hates designers: people used to blame Jonny I've for MacBook problems, now they blame Alan Dye for icon problems. As if designers are the most powerful people in orgs, that drive decisions and easily convince everyone into dark ways. With (usually) lowest compensation among tech disciplines. While AI companies REALLY-REALLY wanting to automate designers and taste.
