Wonpil appeared at the ‘2026 SBS Gayo Daejeon Summer’ held at KINTEX in Ilsan on the afternoon of 9 Aug. It had been about two years since his last appearance on a music show, when he performed the title track ‘Melt Down’ from DAY6’s ninth mini album ‘Band Aid’ with the other DAY6 members in September 2024. Amid enthusiastic cheers, Wonpil took the stage and performed ‘Highs and Lows’ the title track of his first solo mini album ‘Unpiltered,’ which was released on March 30 and reached No. 1 on the music charts. The following stage was ‘A Journey,’ a track from his first full-length solo album ‘Pilmography.’ Wonpil wrote and composed the song himself, and through its yearly reverse-charting on various music charts on the last day of the year and the first day of the new year, he established himself as one of the music industry’s representative reverse-charting icons and a man of good luck. As expected of a song so beloved by the public, fans throughout the audience also sang along passionately to ‘A Journey’ at the ‘2026 SBS Gayo Daejeon Summer.’ The undisputed highlight of the performance was the intro stage Wonpil presented before launching into ‘Highs and Lows’ in earnest. Appearing in a leather jacket that evoked a rock star feel, he showed off an intense charisma that contrasted with his nickname “Kkyakdoongie (term for excitedly cute)” through the use of a launchpad arrangement that was not part of the original song. He then stood in front of a standing microphone and delivered an emotional vocal performance and soaring high notes that perfectly matched the explosive band sound, providing an exhilarating listening experience. Wonpil has previously used launchpad beats to get both his members and audiences dancing, including during the ‘Sing Me’ stage on DAY6’s 2019 world tour ‘GRAVITY.’ Music fans’ hearts inevitably raced at Wonpil’s launchpad stage, which made a long-awaited return. Immediately after the performance, the term “launchpad’ rose to No. 2 on X’s real-time trends, just behind ‘Gayo Daejeon,’ which was No. 1.
