Weld County is repaving the Sheriff's Office and Jail parking lots. The third phase, which included the east jail parking lot, is complete and the parking lot is open. The next phase, repaving the west jail parking lot is currently underway. The parking lot will be closed for paving through July 30. Individuals visiting the building can park in the east jail parking lot (off of O Street) or the Health Department (off of N. 17th Avenue). The front entrance will remain open throughout the project. During today's board meeting, all five Weld County Commissioners approved the issuance of a Request for Proposals (RFP) for a construction manager/general contractor for the entire Weld County Justice Center project, rather than the three separate projects previously identified, citing it as the most efficient use of taxpayer funds. The decision follows historical research and legal analysis conducted by the Weld County Attorney's Office regarding Section 14-8 of the Weld County Home Rule Charter. The research concluded that Section 14-8 was intended to be a limitation on taxation, not spending. Because Weld County has sufficient funds available to construct the Justice Center and will not be raising taxes to do so, a vote is not required. Read more at weld.gov.

Progress continues at the future Weld County Justice Center site. The former Greeley United Methodist Church has now been removed. Cleanup and site preparation activities remain underway as demolition work continues across the property. The church was a part of the Greeley community for generations, with roots dating back to the late 1800s.
