The challenge is that in the older days, there used to be store detectives that used to go around per region. They'd get to know their stores, patterns and the like. Often catch colleagues robbing as much as customers. Then they were restructured out of existence, the bean counters could prove the savings (on wages etc) but the impact on shrinkage (IE Theft) wasn't known as obviously the store detectives / whatever existed. 3rd party guards (Mitie and whoever) are contracted in and of course, we all know with contractors, very rarely is it a good news story. What happens over time is that bill (initially outsourcing is great!) is reduced which means fewer stores get a guard for fewer days and eventually, the race to the bottom means that the worst stores get a guard but often the guard changes. (Contractors). Then if a store starts to report loads of theft on the internal tools, they get a guard and are eligible due to attacks on staff, or similar. So the guard is added, things settle down, the thieves often then go elsewhere for softer targets. Then buoyed by the success, guess what? The guard is removed as that store no longer needs it. Then the thieves come back! Rinse and repeat. This is the same with hours on the shop floor, minimum manning and the gradual reduction in any form of standards in most of the retailers. The ones that perform the best - IE Sainsbury's, Tesco, M&S are the ones with the best standards. Asda have recently changed their in house guards (operated by Asda) to a 3rd party, so some bright spark in the office can show a saving and put it on their Linkedin profile. But given the climate we are currently in, with rising shop theft, this is one of the most short sighted decisions ever seen in UK retail.

I think most Brits had a bit of a love/hate relationship with Americans. We admired their ambition, their music & film, their openess. We were less keen on their boasting, their global ignorance, their guns, their sense of superiority. Under Trump, most of that love has now gone.

@BenRamanauskas Thatcher was one of our greatest PMs. Her legacy however, has been destructive beyond measure in all sorts of ways. She was a exceptional politician and transformational in so many ways, not all for the worse. In short, I think both things are true.

When it was put to a referendum only 3 people voted not to remain a British territory, 1513 people voted yes. Meanwhile the Argentine position is that they inherited the 200 year old claims of the Spanish empire and are entitled to a territory that never once belonged to them.
