RANKING DAVID FOSTER WALLACE’S BOOKS 1. A Supposedly Fun Thing I'll Never Do Again 2. Infinite Jest 3. Consider the Lobster 4. Girl with Curious Hair 5. The Pale King
Writers, don’t get an MFA, lmao. Spend all that time and energy writing and building an audience so you won’t have to deal with the publishing industry and the academic prisses. You only have to get good at writing and build an audience once. Then, for the rest of your life, you can write at your highest ability, beautiful works that will have actual readers
@brecht_dp It's from Laura B. McGrath's book Middlemen: Literary Agents and the Making of American Fiction, which came out last month.
Twenty-five literary agents represented over 50% of the major prize-winning novels in the 21st century. That's cartel level corruption and control, especially when there is a 0% chance any of us could get our work in front of any of those agents.
Don’t be a reader, be someone who wants to live so fully, wants to transform the world so much that, without reading the most important books ever, it wouldn’t be possible.
Did BookTok need manifestos, movements, and leaders to kick-start its literary renaissance? Nope, through collective action and decentralized command, with the leader being the books they loved, HUNDREDS of millions of books have been sold, because teenagers, moms, and grandmas all came together and PUSHED them IRL and online.
That’s not what the lit bros want. That’s what your readers who will actually support you and pay for your book want.
Don’t worry about being better than the GOATs, that will get you nowhere anymore. Worry about transcending your logical shell and pride, and using that freedom to interface with your readers through words in a way that will do the same for them.
Being a successful writer in 2026 isn’t going to be about practicing writing or self-promoting, it will be about what you select to improve, and its correlation with the psychic need of readers who are starving for great literature.
So, let’s rephrase it: You don’t care enough about your writing to make it better or figure out ways to make people interested in you before they read your piece, so they don’t enter it in scan mode.
support whoever just did that to them by getting your book or a subcription on here.
Writers who say “I don’t care about monetizing my work“ don’t realize, that your work becomes monetizable when people care enough to stop being scanners that hit the like button out of pity, and start reading your work so deeply that it rocks their world, and they just have to
What we need more than ever are writers who are willing to raid modern life, within their work and outside of it.
I am starting my literary magazine to clear ground for writers after decades of the workshop voice, the literary virus, dominating literature. Things are so bad that poets are returning to form again, and fiction writers to minimalism 🤣
New readers don’t need to be awakened into literature through the logical linguistic literary Olympics of the past few centuries, as it primes them to worship the mind, instead of FEEL the deep waters below, darkness above, and the abandoned steel mill on the edge of town.
Poetry is more important than fiction because most lit bros need the intellect smacked out of them.
Hold on to your crooked fellowships, sweetheart deals, grants, and propaganda machine while you can, because we are coming.
You’ve belittled the existence of the men and women who live in the trees, who write about the wind, and shoved unsymbolic industry plants down our throats for over a century.
The literary renaissance is about to wreck the entire NYC publishing industrial complex and all the nepo cronies corrupting the true power of literature.
