David Tepper on trading binary events: "i don't know what's going to happen, but i know the vol is cheap. it's either going to be good or it's going to be bad. i can only lose a premium if it gets bad, and if it gets good i'm going to make a lot of money." this interview is from the archives, but the game has not changed. most guys still try to predict the news. they guess what the central bank will do and load up on leverage. they try to be heroes and predict the exact outcome of an election Tepper does not guess the news. he just looks for cheap volatility. if the options are priced wrong, he just buys the premium if the event goes against him, he takes a tiny paper cut. if it goes his way, he catches a huge move that pays for the whole year. you do not need a crystal ball to make money. you just need a setup where the upside completely dwarfs the risk stop trying to predict the timeline. find cheap vol and cap your downside bookmark and watch the interview here
