When my dad passed in 2013, I was in my 300 level, and my little sister was just 8 years old, living with sickle cell. We had already lost our mum nine years earlier. At that point, my sister had no choice but to move in with my uncle. My uncle had only been married a few years then, and his first child was just four. Life didn’t exactly prepare anyone for that situation. And honestly, his wife may not have been entirely comfortable with it and her feelings would have been valid too. But sometimes, life doesn’t give you perfect conditions; it just puts responsibility in your hands. My uncle stepped up because he had no real alternative. What makes it even deeper is that my dad had once brought him and another uncle from the village to Lagos in the early ’90s and made sure they got the education that shaped their lives. That’s how life comes full circle. one good turn really does deserve another. I’m sharing this because life is unpredictable. Things can change in an instant, and many of us today seem to be losing that sense of accommodation and responsibility for one another. If you were in my uncle’s position today, would you have done the same or looked away?

Hot take: The Dangote Refinery IPO looks more like a price-discovery exercise than a liquidity event. If liquidity were the objective, a dual listing on the NGX and LSE would make more sense and unlock deeper pool of funding but that would likely require him floating 25% in London. Think about it. Domestic listing will generate say $1bn at best and the refinery alone generates more than that annually at the EBITDA level and has already secured $4bn+ from Afreximbank. The main purpose of the IPO is to anchor public market value to accelerate the trajectory toward a $100bn net worth and not some civic duty like he’s framing it. Participate all you wish in his IPO but be clear about incentives LOL. Dangote doesn’t give a fuck about any of you

ADHD is a very lonely struggle. It’s really hard for those who don’t have the struggle to understand you. And honestly, they don’t owe us the understanding. There is no one fit all tip, but don’t stop pushing champ. The routines will fail multiple times, but try again. No matter how many times you fail, just try again. Speak to fellow ADHDers, get medical advice (if you can), and do something sporty. For me, I run. It would affect your work, your relationships, and almost everything. Just don’t stop pushing champ, it gets better.
