My daughter turns 13 in a week. She’s been dying to see a show at @RedRocksCO — it’d be her first time. I’ve lived in Colorado 25+ years and never been to a show there either. When @ellalangleymsic announced a date at RR on Monday, I was pumped. This would be the greatest birthday present ever! I joined Ella’s Fellas for presale, queued up Thursday, waited an hour, picked seats for me + both daughters + a friend of the b-day girl. Tried for 4 together… @axs glitch said it left a single… I didn’t. I tried again with different seats. This peculiar glitch happened again. So I said screw it — it’s her 13th, first Red Rocks show. Ella Langley. Let’s get a whole section of 6 and figure it out. Boom — booted for “suspicious activity.” Plan B: get the regular tickets at the Friday sale. Got in line. Got in to get tickets. All resale… at 10x the price! How are they all resale tickets 20 min after the tickets go on sale??? Told my daughter the would-be failed surprise. She hugged me, said it was thoughtful, and that it would’ve been the coolest gift ever. Her mom already took her to Disney for 8 days for her birthday this month. I just wanted to match that magic. Thanks for nothing, AXS! I miss the good ole days where you waited in line and met some cool people while waiting to get tickets or worked out a deal with your buddies to grab you some tickets while they waited. Getting tickets used to build community and create stories that added to the event. Now it’s locals vs the entire world to get tickets to local events. Ella — it would’ve been so cool to have our first time at Red Rocks be to see you. 💔 Congrats on all your much deserved success. Anyway, I bought my daughter her first beginner level electric guitar and an amp instead (so far). Maybe she’ll play Red Rocks someday and maybe I’ll be able to finally see a show there. Anyone got ideas for an epic 13th birthday gift that can compete with Disney… without 10x resale tickets? #RedRocks #EllaLangley #axs

SEVEN Denver businesses just announced closures this week and the pattern is impossible to ignore. Rock Bottom - Flagship location that helped build Denver’s microbrew scene. 1UP - The original arcade bar location is closing and relocating to Belmar. (Wonder what pushed that decision…🙄) Church & Union - Barely 2 years old and already calling it quits. Mecha Noodle - RiNo restaurant closing after 2 years. Portside - Didn’t renew their lease after 10 years in Five Points. Magna Kainan - Closing their RiNo location after less than 2 years. Two Moons - Closing their RiNo venue after a nearly 2-year run. When your city’s “vibrancy” looks like this on the streets… businesses don’t survive. Great work, @MikeJohnstonCO
