Seems the Centre is misjudging the public mood right now. Why else introduce a fee on UPI and make things worse for your own standing? Sure, running UPI costs money, no one expects it to be entirely free. But the cash-heavy system we had before cost significantly more. In reality, UPI saves the govt far more money than it takes to maintain. Think of it like this: You used to pay ₹1,500 a month to ride a crowded bus. Then you switched to the metro, which costs only ₹800 a month. Instead of being happy that you're saving ₹700 every month and getting a better ride, you start complaining about spending ₹800. That’s exactly what’s happening here. The govt is complaining about the visible maintenance cost of UPI while completely ignoring the massive savings and value it has gained. By shifting millions of transactions online, UPI reduced tax evasion, boosted compliance, and expanded the formal economy. It slashed cash-handling costs like printing, transport, and security, while ensuring cleaner, leak-proof welfare payouts. Its digital trail suppresses black money and fraud. So why ruin one of the most successful systems India has ever built? The claim that merchants will absorb the cost instead of consumers is absurd. There isn't a single fee or tax levied on businesses in India that doesn't ultimately get passed down to the buyer. A 0.4% fee, even capped at ₹300 per transaction, will simply be tacked onto consumer bills, driving people right back to using cash.

Since I work with many cancer cases, I have a first hand experience and the spread is much more especially the big cities.. Recently I had to arrange for a costly cancer drug (2.4 lacs per month) for one of the close relatives. I tried a few medical companies and even the stockists at the biggest hospitals for availability and rates.. I was told not to take the medicine from any retail supplier, or on discounts and only directly from the company itself as in India, 40 to 50% available medicine (of that specific drug) is fake in all the cities.. I am also told that significant amount of fake drugs are coming via Bangladesh and distributed everywhere in India..

The SIT arrested Veeresh Jain in Bengaluru for allegedly being involved in supplying fake anticancer medicines to more than 90 hospitals and clinics in Bengaluru, allegedly offering them at discounts of around 50 percent. Jain had been running this business for the last five years. His pharmacy allegedly repacked fake and expired medicines and relabelled them as drugs from big brands. How many hundreds of men, women, and children in the last five years have fought with everything they had, kept their spirits up, and thought that staying positive would help the chemo work better, only to be handed a death sentence wrapped in counterfeit packaging? How many families emptied their life savings to buy bottled salt water while their loved ones faded away? The most horrific part is that this is not an isolated case. It is happening with complete impunity across the country, only coming to light on the rare occasion that someone actually gets caught.

No disrespect to Tukaram Mundhe, staying upright in a corrupt setup takes insane grit. But when an officer gets hero-worshipped just for doing what he’s paid to do, it shows how rock-bottom the work ethic in our public administration really is.

If reservation is a beacon of hope, why exclude higher judiciary from it? Only 3% of High court and Supreme court judges are Dalits, only 12% are women. When it comes to your own jobs, you want merit not quotas. We are tired of your hypocrisy milords. Practice what you preach.
