@NobletStrength This is easily believable when you factor in travel. My low level club team in the 2010s was $3-$5k a year, just to be a part of the club. My cousins who play ECNL are paying more than that and are traveling to play throughout Texas and Oklahoma every weekend.

@RonStewart_ Because youth development in soccer is all about a professional pathway. An IMG style academy would be useless if not attached to a professional club. So much talent in this country is wasted in independent and expensive youth teams.

Hypothetically speaking if Texas was still an independent country I think we would still qualify for the WC. McKennie, Richards, Pepi, Tessman, Zendejas, etc. wouldn’t be a very deep team but I think they could get through CONCACAF qualifying
