You spend your whole life hearing “greatest country on Earth,” then you go overseas and see clean trains, safer streets, affordable medicine, cities where people can walk without playing Frogger with an SUV, and workers who take vacations without acting like they committed treason. And then you come home. You come home to potholes, medical debt, school shooting drills, $17 airport sandwiches, people living in tents under highways, politicians wearing flag pins (or worse, gun pins) while doing absolutely nothing for the people standing in food bank lines, and billionaires being treated like they’re the fragile ones. And somehow we’re all supposed to stand there, hand over heart, and pretend this is normal. I don’t hate America. I hate what America has been taught to tolerate. I hate that we call basic things “radical.” Healthcare? Radical. Paid leave? Radical. Clean air? Radical. Kids not getting shot in math class? Somehow political. Meanwhile, the loudest “patriots” are usually the same people telling struggling Americans to shut up, stop complaining, and be grateful. Grateful for what? A flag doesn’t pay rent. A bald eagle doesn’t cover insulin. Fireworks don’t fix bridges. And chanting “USA” doesn’t make a broken system less broken. America has incredible people. That’s the tragedy. The people are better than the system they’ve been forced to defend. So no, I’m not going to call America the greatest country on Earth just because it has the best marketing department. This is Congresswoman Joyce Beatty, Kennedy Center board member. It is her lawsuits that are blocking Donald Trump from completely desecrating and destroying it. The Kennedy Center awards are normally given for lifetime achievement in the arts. Joyce's work in preserving this national treasure and cultural institution is worthy of one of those awards. In due time (when Trump is gone), she must be recognized at their annual awards ceremony.

A few thoughts this morning on the situation at the White House. I'm sure plenty of people don't see the big deal in denying a few outlets access to the grounds. But it is a big deal. * Press freedom is a bedrock principle. * Less journalism = more opportunities for corruption. * Banning reporters has a chilling effect for those reporters not banned * There is nothing to indicate Trump will stop with these three. * Less appreciated: adversarial press helps presidents. We should welcome checks and transparency. It's good governance. I'm disheartened by the absence of real meaningful public pushback as these outlets have their credentials pulled this morning. There should be collective action. The WHCA should be explaining more openly what they're doing. After all, this is an institution founded on open publication of information

🚨OUTRAGEOUS: An MS NOW reporter just tried to enter the White House, scanned her badge and discovered it had been DEACTIVATED: “I attempted to scan my badge. It DID NOT work. There is a red beeping light. The officer said it’s disabled.” This is a direct attack on our freedom.

The amount of people that showed up to the the Kennedy Center tonight was insane & they weren’t just from all over this Country,but some people flew in from other Countries to lock hands in solidarity to show their support. It wasn’t just Democrats,but also Republicans too. 🙏
