@IndieAutistic I...have avoided the hair salon for almost two years as I have her to figure out how to avoid the small talk/noise/talking with strangers/ weird eye contact

@IndieAutistic Very few people so far (though it feels like I haven’t known that long despite it being nearly 2 years since I was diagnosed!) I’ve only told a handful of people and my employers so far.

#ActuallyAutisic community: if you have a few moments, would you mind doing a fellow #autie a favour? I’m trying to best articulate why I prefer ‘autistic person’ or ‘on the spectrum’ over the term *shudders* ‘person with autism’ for a blog post I’m writing. Any opinions on (1/2)

@NeuroRebel 1 and 3 I use intermittently; I absolutely HATE the phrase ‘person with autism’. I don’t HAVE it - it’s part of me; It’s not something separate or to be ‘cured’ or ‘fixed’. (Though if individuals prefer it for themselves of course 👌 just don’t go using that for me 😅)

Anyone else find ‘persons with disabilities’ to be kinda annoying? Seems to be US / Medical Lens? It get really grating. I am autistic (eg part of my identity). I have impairments. I only become disabled due to barriers. Feels like PWD day gets it backwards :(

Parent asked for suggestions as his autistic child is “being rude” #ActuallyAutistic my reply: she’s not being rude a) She likely answers honestly • if you don’t want honest answer, don’t ask question • if you need her to lie (eg Christmas presents), give her a script 1/2

My father in law came over and asked 2 for a kiss and when she said “no” he said “gonna take one anyway” and my husband stopped him and explained that we’re working hard to teach her that her “no” has power and deserves respect and I’m not crying YOU’RE crying
