“The Law” includes both universal standards that predate and go far beyond Sinai, and all of that is and was binding, apart from Sinai. There are laws, however, that originated in the context of Sinai, and were dependent on that covenant, which is now obsolete, replaced by the New Covenant. Those laws are no longer binding. That is the answer. Glad we could educate you.

By applying the Brittani’s definition to all non-TO people, especially to reformed Christians who hold to the tripartite distinctions, you betray one of two things. Either you are just ignorant of how pro-law historic Christianity actually is, or you are purposefully slandering us. The statement that “obedience itself is seen as legalism” has always been rejected by all but the fringes. It has never, ever represented the core of Christianity, from the ancient church to the present day. All three major streams of Christianity, Roman, Eastern, and Protestant, have consistently said that man must obey God, some to a such a high degree as to become heretical. For TO people to come along lately and try to apply this to everyone except themselves is hubris right up there with every would be spiritual leader who pretends to have found the “one true faith” and everyone outside his little group is hopelessly lost. Find another insult or admit you’re redefining its meaning. Be honest.

Ok. Which verse says “Torah Observant” positively? You make silly demands about the specific phrase, “Faith alone” while ignoring actual contextual arguments. Your Torah theology fails biblical scrutiny, but all you do is make broad sweeping declarations and ignore serious challenges.

Last night, I completed a deep dive series on Hebrews responding to the Torah movements and one of their best scholars, Tim Hegg. This series was over 5 years in the making, mainly because of other commitments preventing its completion sooner. But these long gaps provided ample time for those in the Torah movements, especially those close to Tim, to attempt a response. They are well aware of my work. One of my conversations with Tim’s son Caleb Hegg, who is also the Executive Director of Torah Resource, the organization Tim founded, is on the Torah Resource channel and website at the time of this post. They and others in the movements are not shy about arguing their case and responding to their opponents. It isn’t that they don’t have time. If you dive into this series, which carefully responds to everything Tim Hegg writes about the passages in context, I think you will see why they’ve have been quiet. I don’t do shallow, gotcha arguments. I care about what the Bible actually says. In a recent podcast, Caleb said that Hebrews was his current biggest challenge to his theology, though he believes he has responses. I hope he and other teachers who depend on Tim take the time to really dig into the problems with his commentary that I’ve discussed in this series.
