There are people inside and outside both Hindu and Muslim communities (in the U.K.) that gain from dividing these two communities. It’s critical that we don’t fall for it. I’m heartened to see this combined effort to improve the environment and life for everyone.

When Marlowe’s British Kitchen opened in Leeds, Rabbi Gilbert asked the Muslim owners, Jenade Yamin and Arabaab “Paddy” Munir if they would consider making it kosher as well as halal. They did not have to. It meant change and cost. Paddy thought about it and said yes. Now there are halal and kosher fryers side by side and one long queue for fish and chips. Orthodox Jews, Muslim families, neighbours from every background, ordering the same national dish. Everyone remained unmistakably themselves, they simply widened the table and in that small act, you glimpse the country we can still choose to be. (My grandfather was a kosher caterer, known for his fish. I inherited none of his skill!) @JewishNewsUK

The likes of Nigel Farage and Tommy Robinson don’t like that I can be both British and Muslim. They want their followers to believe that us celebrating our faith means we don’t love Britain. I was born here and I’d give my life for Britain. That scares them cause they wouldn’t.
