Yes, postpartum hormones can influence mood and mental health. Postpartum psychosis is also a real, documented psychiatric condition.1) It’s very rare (1/2 per 1000 births) 2) neither womanhood nor hormonal fluctuation automatically eliminates agency or criminal responsibility. Even an insanity defense requires evidence that a person’s mental condition met a specific legal threshold at the time of the crime and not simply evidence that she was postpartum, hormonal, depressed, or mentally ill. For most of Western history, women were explicitly characterized as irrational, emotionally unstable, and intellectually inferior because of their reproductive biology. “Hysteria” itself was historically associated with the uterus, and women could be institutionalized under extraordinarily broad standards. So when you argue that a woman’s reproductive biology can make her so fundamentally incapable of controlling herself that she shouldn’t be held accountable for killing someone, you’re resurrecting exactly the premise that female biology makes women less rational, less autonomous, and less responsible for their own decisions than men. It’s the same logic used to excuse black murderers. “They could not help themselves.” You can’t have it both ways. Either women are autonomous adults capable of equal participation in society and deserving of equal justice under the law, or we’re fragile creatures governed by hormonal madness who cannot reliably be trusted with the same agency and responsibility afforded to men. If you genuinely believe the Clancy defense, you’ve constructed a better argument for the paternalism of the 19th century than most 19th-century men ever could. Congratulations!

Walmart banned the guy for paying people’s grocery bills. Damon Darling goes into stores, drops cash on strangers’ carts, helps folks struggling with inflation, and films the good deeds. Walmart’s response? Lifetime ban. Private property rules against filming and approaching customers, even when he’s spending money and making their sales go up. In a country where people are struggling at the register, the one doing something about it gets the boot. Pure corporate clown world. Helping your neighbor shouldn’t be a fireable offense. 🇺🇸

Here's what bothers me about all the artists pulling out of The Great American State Fair. Martina McBride, Bret Michaels, Milli Vanilli (who knew they were still around) and others claim that they can't play this event because it's too divisive and has caused security concerns. PLEASE, HELP ME UNDERSTAND. I can't see the people who want to attend a Freedom 250 event causing security threats. Are these threats instead coming from the people who are AGAINST this celebration? And what part of Freedom 250 is divisive? Please, be specific. I love Martina McBride. What changed that made this event no longer "non-partisan?" I'd like to know because NONE of this should be about politics. I remember the Bicentennial. Everyone got together, Republicans and Democrats, to celebrate the 200th birthday of our nation. I remember people HATED President Ford and Nixon at the time. But they still showed up to celebrate. They didn’t boycott due to the person in the Oval Office. The celebration was bigger than the president. Freedom 250 should be exactly the same. No politics. No partisanship. If that's really what it's turning into, I'd like to know exactly how. Until then, it just looks like partisanship and fear of retaliation from their own side when performers drop out.
