Villavicencio defined his policies within the theme of ‘Safe Ecuador,” a plan focused on five kinds of safety: citizen, food, economic, environmental and health- an agenda similar in nature to our “America First” movement. Villavicencio was an opponent of former leftist President Rafael Correa. Villavicencio was sentenced to 18 months in prison in 2014 for allegedly slandering Correa.
