Hello nervous breakdown #2 of the semester. The semester that started yesterday.
Life is full of ups and downs but the constant stress graduate students face are only intensified by uncertainties about income and healthcare. This treatment of graduate students needs to end. #AcademicTwitter #phdchat #phdlife
After all the crap I’ve been through, I thought it was over. Then I get to the pharmacy to pick up my anxiety medications to find out my insurance coverage is not valid. Can’t print cards or proof due to “overwhelming demand” #gradschool #phdlife

8 of the 10 lowest paid jobs in America are in the food system. The lowest 7 are restaurant workers. Most waitresses are paid $2-3/hour which almost is always taken completely by taxes leaving them to live off tips alone

Made it to my conference after a pitstop at my parents house. Thankful for lunch with my mom to ease the stress of the last few weeks
First they took my summer and overload funding now this. I’m having a meltdown in a gas station parking lot on the way to a conference over all this. How am I suppose to do my best with the toll this financial stress is taking on my mental health?
I got an email that my “official” start date has been moved back one week. I have work obligations the whole original start week. This also means my first paycheck will be a whole pay period later. Why do we do this to grad students?

This is so real. If it weren’t for the money I’ve been able to save waiting tables, I would be one of the ones who couldn’t afford expenses while waiting for the first check.
hi I spent $3,000 today for student health insurance, student fees, & rent when I don't get my full PhD stipend until Sep 30 (which is ~$2,100). I'm thankful I could afford this ahead of the Aug 6 deadline. But many grad students can't. And that's a major issue we should fix.
